Job summary

Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. in San Diego is seeking a Backend Software Engineer to join the Snapdragon Guardian / Compute Sentra team. You will design, develop, and validate microservices, APIs, and event pipelines powering device management and IoT security at scale.

Join a team building cloud services, learning to leverage AI-assisted coding tools, and collaborating across product, QA, and engineering to deliver end-to-end features. This on-site role requires a B.Sc.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field.
• Foundational programming experience in an object-oriented language (Java, Kotlin, C#, or similar).
• Familiarity with relational databases and SQL fundamentals.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Fluent English.

As a Backend Software Engineer on the Snapdragon Guardian / Compute Sentra team, you will help build the cloud services that power out-of-band device management and IoT security for our customers’ fleets — designing, developing, and validating the microservices, APIs, and event pipelines that keep devices secure, discoverable, and manageable at scale.

As a Backend Software Engineer, you will

• Work with a group of talented engineers to build and maintain backend microservices for the Compute Sentra SaaS platform.
• Implement REST APIs, event listeners, and data models under the guidance of senior engineers.
• Write clean, well-tested code and participate in code reviews to learn and uphold team standards.
• Be exposed to modern AI-assisted software development, using AI tools to accelerate coding, testing, and debugging as part of our everyday engineering workflow.
• Help troubleshoot, debug, and monitor services running in our cloud environment.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teammates — product, QA, and other engineers — to deliver features end to end.
• Minimum Qualifications:
• B.Sc. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
• Foundational programming experience in an object-oriented language (Java, Kotlin, C#, or similar), through coursework, internships, or personal projects.
• Familiarity with relational databases and SQL fundamentals.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Fluent English.
• Must be able to work on-site in San Diego, CA.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field.

Preferred Qualifications — What you will bring

• Exposure to server-side frameworks such as Spring / Spring Boot (Java) or equivalents (Flask, FastAPI, .NET).
• Understanding of REST API design and HTTP fundamentals.
• Familiarity with Git and collaborative development workflows.
• Basic understanding of microservices architecture.
• Any exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).

Nice to Haves

• Excellent problem-solving skills and eagerness to learn.
• Any exposure to working with AI coding assistants such as Claude or Codex.
• Coursework or projects involving distributed systems, messaging (Kafka), or event-driven design.
• Familiarity with PostgreSQL or other relational databases.
• Exposure to containers and Kubernetes (Docker, k8s).
• Awareness of Clean Code, SOLID, and sound software engineering practices.
• Interest in IoT, device management, or security.

Pay range and Other Compensation & Benefits

• $99,500.00 - $149,300.00

The above pay scale reflects the broad, minimum to maximum, pay scale for this job code for the location for which it has been posted. Even more importantly, please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Qualcomm.
