Job summary

Plane is seeking a backend engineer to own surfaces end to end—from API contracts to migrations—shipping scalable Python/Django services. You will work with teams in San Francisco and Hyderabad to manage real-time data paths and state across large workspaces.

Strong production Python, SQL, and async experience are essential. You'll optimize queries, contribute to architecture decisions, and ensure observability and reliability for Plane's platform, including cloud and isolated environments.

Qualifications

• Shipped Python to production and can discuss a real decision you would change now.
• Experience with Django or a comparable framework (models, migrations, request cycle).
• Comfortable with SQL beyond ORM; can read queries and add indexes.
• Experience writing asynchronous Python in production traffic.
• Experience debugging production incidents and explaining fixes.
• Ability to write clearly in public issue threads and code reviews.

Responsibilities

• Own backend surfaces end to end from API contracts to migrations and rollout.
• Extend real-time sync paths: event streams, change data capture, caching.
• Measure and improve query performance as workspaces grow.
• Instrument deployments to surface degradation in dashboards and respond when needed.
• Collaborate daily with product and frontend engineers in SF and Hyderabad.
• Debug issues in production across hardware and networks we don't control.
