Job summary

Klaviyos is seeking a Software Engineer II for the Recommendations Platform in Boston. You will help design backend services powering product recommendations across email, SMS, onsite, and more, focusing on reliability and performance.

You will collaborate with ML engineers and product teams to productionize models, build scalable data pipelines, and enhance observability. A strong Python background and experience with cloud-native systems are valued.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of professional software engineering experience focusing on backend and distributed systems.
• Proficient in Python and open to working in other languages.
• Experience with AWS and Kubernetes; manage infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines as a core part of development.
• Experience in data-driven decision making and A/B testing.
• Comfortable designing data models in relational, analytical, and NoSQL datastores.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills.
• Self-starter with interest in AI tools and workflows.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the architecture and evolution of backend services powering product recommendations across channels.
• Develop and maintain large-scale data processing pipelines and feature inputs for models.
• Collaborate with ML engineers and product stakeholders to productionize models and define interfaces.
• Contribute to the development of the vector database powering search and agentic use cases.
• Ensure observability through metrics, logging, and dashboards for reliable recommendations.
• Break down projects into milestones and balance experimentation with maintainability.
• Lead data-driven decision making and A/B testing to guide iterations.
• Participate in on-call and incident responses to improve resilience.
• Integrate AI into development workflows and toolchains.
• Share knowledge and mentor junior engineers.
