Scribe is hiring a Backend Engineer on Data Ingestion to build and maintain the systems that bring captured activity into our platform. You’ll own backend services, batch processing, and storage layers at scale, collaborating with product and design teams to deliver reliable, high-throughput solutions.

You’ll work in a hybrid setting based in San Francisco, contribute to architecture discussions, and participate in on-call rotations while upholding strong engineering practices and achieving

Qualifications

• 2+ years building backend applications or services.
• Fluent in Python or Go; willing to work with both.
• Experience debugging production systems from metrics/logs.
• Product-minded: value user problems as much as code.
• Strong collaboration with PMs/designers/engineers.

Responsibilities

• Build projects from design to launch on existing or new products.
• Collaborate with PMs, designers and other engineers to execute the build and plan.
• Contribute to technical discussions, balancing short-term delivery with long-term architecture.
• Uphold engineering practices: code review, test coverage, observability.
• Build and operate high-throughput backend services and storage layers.
• Improve performance and reliability of services, queries, endpoints, and caches.
• Participate in on-call rotation for the systems you build.

About the role

As a Backend Engineer on Data Ingestion, you'll work on the systems that bring captured activity into Scribe: receiving, batching, storing and handing it on to the AI pipeline, at the scale of hundreds of thousands of users and growing. The work is backend and infrastructure: throughput, reliability and cost.

What you'll do

Build projects from design to launch, on established products and new ones.

Collaborate with PMs, designers and other engineers to execute the build and how.

Contribute to technical discussions, balancing short-term delivery with long-term architecture.

Uphold strong engineering practices: code review, test coverage and observability.

Build and operate high-throughput backend services and the queues and storage behind them.

Improve the performance and reliability of services, database queries, endpoints and caching across critical workflows.

Take part in the on-call rotation for the systems you build

What we're looking for

• 2+ years building experience building backend applications
• Product-minded. You care about the user problem as much as the code
• Comfortable with unclear problems and fast change
• Strong Python or Go experience, or experience in another backend language and willingness to work across Python and Go
• Familiar with queues, object storage, and relational or time-series databases
• Has debugged a production problem from metrics and logs
• User-centric, empathetic, and passionate about your work
• Nice to have: AI/LLM product experience, startup experience

Compensation & Location

Hybrid, based in San Francisco. We work from the office 3 days per week, with Mondays and Wednesdays being anchor days.

All full-time employees receive equity in Scribe. Final offers depend on experience and scope.
