Job summary

Scribe is seeking a Backend Software Engineer to join Data Ingestion. You’ll build and optimize services that capture and route activity to the AI pipeline at scale. The role focuses on backend systems, throughput, reliability, and cost, with collaboration across product, design, and other engineers.

You’ll work in a hybrid model based in San Francisco, contributing to high-impact projects used by hundreds of thousands of users. Equity, benefits, and a collaborative culture accompany this role.

About the role

As a Backend Software Engineer on Data Ingestion, you’ll work on the systems that bring captured activity into Scribe: receiving, batching, storing and handing it on to the AI pipeline, at the scale of hundreds of thousands of users and growing. The work is backend and infrastructure: throughput, reliability and cost.

What you'll do

• Build projects from design to launch, on established products and new ones.
• Collaborate with PMs, designers and other engineers to execute the build and how.
• Contribute to technical discussions, balancing short-term delivery with long-term architecture.
• Uphold strong engineering practices: code review, test coverage and observability.
• Build and operate high-throughput backend services and the queues and storage behind them.
• Improve the performance and reliability of services, database queries, endpoints and caching across critical workflows.
• Take part in the on-call rotation for the systems you build

What we're looking for

• 2+ years building experience building backend applications
• Product-minded. You care about the user problem as much as the code
• Comfortable with unclear problems and fast change
• Strong Python or Go experience, or experience in another backend language and willingness to work across Python and Go
• Familiar with queues, object storage, and relational or time-series databases
• Has debugged a production problem from metrics and logs
• User-centric, empathetic, and passionate about your work
• Nice to have: AI/LLM product experience, startup experience

Compensation & Location

Hybrid, based in San Francisco. We work from the office 3 days per week, with Mondays and Wednesdays being anchor days.

All full-time employees receive equity in Scribe. Final offers depend on experience and scope.
