Job summary

Uber Technologies Inc. is seeking a Software Engineer to join the Delivery Search team.

You will build and scale backend systems powering search across Uber Eats, Grocery, and Retail, including retrieval, ranking, and ML-powered experiences. You will work with ML engineers, data scientists, and platform teams to improve latency, relevance, and reliability, deploying production-ready code and contributing to scalable search infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or equivalent practical experience.
• 2+ years of professional software engineering experience building production systems.
• Proficiency in Go, Java, C++, or Python.
• Experience developing backend services, APIs, or distributed systems.
• Strong CS fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, concurrency, system design.
• Experience writing maintainable, well-tested production code.
• Strong problem-solving skills and collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain scalable backend services powering search across Uber Eats, Grocery, and Retail.
• Develop retrieval and ranking systems for relevant results.
• Productionize ML/LLM-powered search capabilities, including ranking and query understanding.
• Work with lexical and semantic retrieval, embeddings, and ML-based ranking.
• Collaborate with ML engineers and data scientists to integrate models into production search paths.
• Build scalable search serving and indexing infrastructure for high query volumes.
• Improve latency, throughput, reliability, and efficiency across components.
