Job summary

Abnormal AI is seeking a Software Engineer to help build and evolve our platform as it scales. You will design, implement, and own backend systems and ML components, improving reliability, latency, and feature delivery.

You will work on AI-powered features, integrate LLM APIs, and collaborate with product and design teams to ship robust, scalable software in an async-first environment.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of industry experience shipping production backend systems.
• Solid backend proficiency in Python with production systems experience.
• Experience with system design fundamentals for reliable, scalable apps.
• Working knowledge of relational databases and modern data storage tech.
• Exposure to service-to-service communication (gRPC, Kafka) and caching (Redis) is a plus.
• Experience with AWS services (S3, RDS) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.
• Comfortable writing technical docs and contributing to design discussions.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and iterate on scalable backend and ML systems, APIs, frameworks, and internal tools.
• Take ownership of well-scoped features with guidance on complex cross-system work.
• Contribute to stability, reliability, and operational excellence of critical systems.
• Write clean, testable, resilient code with attention to edge cases and performance.
• Contribute to technical design documents and participate in design discussions.
• Participate in code and design reviews, and contribute to on-call rotations.
• Design and build LLM-powered features and agentic workflows as part of the platform.
• Integrate LLM APIs and agent frameworks into backend services with reliability and cost in mind.
