Job summary

Experis Technology Group seeks a Backend Engineer to join a client team in South Denver on a hybrid schedule. You will design and maintain authentication and authorization services and enterprise API Gateway integrations for customer-facing and internal applications.

The role focuses on reducing technical debt and securing backend systems, leveraging OAuth 2.0, OIDC, JWT, SAML, and Spring Boot in modern Java environments.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional Java backend development experience.
• Strong experience building RESTful APIs and distributed systems.
• Hands-on experience with authentication and authorization technologies and security protocol implementation.
• Experience with Spring Boot and modern Java frameworks.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Design, enhance, and maintain authentication and authorization services supporting customer-facing and internal applications.
• Build and secure enterprise API Gateway integrations and backend services, strengthening security controls across the platform.
• Reduce technical debt by improving legacy code, refactoring for quality, and modernizing backend systems for internal business reporting.
• Implement and troubleshoot OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect (OIDC), JWT, SAML, and related security protocols.
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools to accelerate delivery while maintaining engineering standards and reliability.

Our client, an enterprise technology organization, is seeking a Backend Engineer to join their team. As a Backend Engineer, you will be part of contributing to enterprise-scale API Gateway and Identity & Access Management (IAM) initiatives. The ideal candidate will have strong RESTful API and distributed systems experience, proven authentication and authorization expertise, and the drive to reduce technical debt while modernizing backend services.

Job Title: Backend Engineer

Location: South Denver (Hybrid)

Pay Range: $55-70/hour, based on experience

What's the Job?

• Design, enhance, and maintain authentication and authorization services that support customer-facing and internal applications.
