Job summary

Black Canyon Consulting is seeking a mid-level C++ Developer to join the NCBI dbSNP engineering team at NIH/NLM in Bethesda, MD. The role centers on back-end services, data pipelines, APIs and tools, with substantial Python work and potential Django exposure.

This full-time, onsite at NIH-NCBI or remote position offers challenging biomedical data projects and a collaborative, agile environment. Ideal candidates bring 3+ years of professional C++ experience, strong testing practices, Git or SVN

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or a scientific field or equivalent experience.
• At least 3 years of professional experience developing high-performance C++ programs.
• Experience writing unit and integration tests for C++ systems.
• At least 1 year of professional Python development experience.
• Understanding of accessibility and security compliance.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain high-performance C++ programs and public-facing services with RESTful APIs and gRPC.
• Develop and maintain internal CLI tools and libraries in C++.
• Write unit tests using Google Test or Boost.Test.
• Build and support Python packages, CLI tools, web services, and web applications.
• Collaborate with data sources such as relational databases, Cassandra, and Solr; ensure accessibility and security compliance.
