Job summary

Vanguard is seeking a senior mobile-focused software engineer to lead development of Node.js middleware and companion native apps. You will work in a true agile environment, partnering with architects to build high‑performance mobile applications and mentor a cross‑functional team.

With 8+ years in the field and 3+ years in Node.js, you will contribute to design, testing, and production readiness while supporting a modern tech stack including NestJS, TypeScript, and AWS.

Qualifications

8+ years related work experience, with at least 3 years of development experience.
3+ years of Node.js experience.
Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience. Graduate degree preferred.

Responsibilities

Lead system analysis, design, development, and implementation for mobile native applications.
Translate stories into design and code; develop well-engineered code and test artifacts.
Collaborate with architects; mentor team on performance best practices and agile dev.
Lead in design, code, and test inspections; ensure quality and velocity in delivery.
Work with Scrum Masters and Product Owners to prioritize work and technical debt.

Provides expert level IT technical lead services, including the direction, evaluation, selection, configuration, implementation, and integration of new and existing technologies and tools.

This is a hybrid position, with in‑office work required on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

What You’ll Do

Demonstrate collaboration, adaptability and a willingness to contribute wherever the team needs support.
Partner with architects to implement high‑performance mobile applications.
Research and summarize adjacent technology trends to provide guidance.
Mentor the team on the “how” of better use of existing platform components and performance best practices.
Apply software engineering fundamentals including object‑oriented design, data structures, dependency injection, testable code, and algorithms.
Use observability to continuously optimize your product capacity, performance, monitoring and alerting.
Communicate technical issues effectively in a manner all audiences can understand.
Establish and communicate a technical vision for your product.
Work with Scrum Masters and Product Owners to prioritize work relative to both delivering business value and addressing technical debt.
Lead system analysis, design, development, and implementation for our existing mobile native applications.
Translate stories into design and code. Develop well‑engineered code and test artifacts backed by automated tests.
Research and employ contemporary software development techniques to ensure quality and improve velocity of the team.
Elevate code into the development, test, and production environments on schedule. Provide follow‑up production support, and submit change control requests and documents.
Follow Agile software development methodology and architecture standards and best practices.
Lead in design, code, and test inspections throughout the life cycle to identify issues. Participate in other meetings, such as those for use case creation.
Foster and maintain an inclusive, highly collaborative team environment.
