Job description

Welcome to a world of arts and culture! The City of San Gabriel is recruiting for the position of Back of House Coordinator for the City's historic Mission Playhouse (circa 1927). The Mission Playhouse promotes the development of an artistic program that celebrates the vibrancy of our diverse community by providing a venue for artists, producers, and audiences to come together. Located in the heart of the San Gabriel Mission District, the Mission Playhouse is the focal point of art and culture for the people of San Gabriel, and far beyond.

THE POSITION

The Back of House Coordinator assists with the coordination and execution of theatrical productions, including rehearsals, performances, and backstage operations for the Mission Playhouse. This position provides an exceptional opportunity for the ideal candidate to showcase their skills in theater operations with our historic City and San Gabriel Mission Playhouse.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The Mission Playhouse can be fast-paced and demanding, so the ideal candidate is adaptable, able to multi-task and thrive under pressure, detailed and organized, strategic and goal oriented, collaborative, customer service oriented, and an outstanding communicator. The ideal candidate can effectively balance the needs of producers, artists, City staff, and Mission Playhouse staff while taking into consideration the strategic goals of the Mission Playhouse. The ideal candidate is also intrinsically motivated, energetic, ready and willing to assist others, and continuously looking to develop and improve the Mission Playhouse operations.

POSITION SUMMARY

Under direct supervision of the Playhouse Manager, the Back of House Coordinator oversees the stage production side of theater events at the Mission Playhouse; supervises the stage crew including staffing, training, and scheduling needs; and performs other related duties as assigned. The Back of House Coordinator plans and organizes activities for a wide variety of events at the Mission Playhouse. This class differs from the Playhouse Supervisor due to the level of experience required, the complexity of work performed, and level and scope of supervision over staff.

Education and Experience
  • College coursework related to theater production.
  • Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience working on live/theatre events.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License and ability to maintain a satisfactory driving record are required.
  • ETCP Certified Rigger - Theatre is desirable.
EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
