Job description

Position Summary:

The Class B Lineman - Overhead is a semi-skilled position responsible for the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical overhead distribution systems. The role involves work at various locations and may require travel to other states based on customer demands.

Essential Functions:
  • Work safely during new construction, maintenance, or repair of energized and de-energized overhead lines.
  • String overhead wire.
  • Set poles and anchors.
  • Install transformers, lightning arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches, and switchgear.
  • Troubleshoot primary and secondary systems.
  • Replace fuses in transformers and clear faulted circuits and systems.
  • Work frequently with energized high voltage systems, requiring skill and caution to ensure safety.
  • Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
  • Perform rigorous physical labor.
  • Identify primary and secondary voltages on circuits.
  • Understand induced voltage and grounding procedures.
  • Use load buster tools appropriately.
  • Install and connect single-phase transformers.
  • Safely set poles.
  • Understand equipment setup and grounding.
  • Work at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Properly install and remove PPE and cover-up.
  • Check voltage on transformers.
  • Tie in primary conductors.
  • Climb various structures (wood, steel, etc.) using necessary tools.
  • Phase out lines using phasing sticks.
  • Obtain a one-shot recloser operation.
  • Conduct pre-job or tailgate briefings effectively.
  • Perform reconductoring jobs safely.
  • Work live on high voltage lines with appropriate gloves and safety measures.
  • Install and remove mechanical jumpers safely.
  • Work outdoors frequently, often in inclement weather.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Minimum of 5 years recent field experience.
  • Effective communication skills in English.
  • Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License permit within 60 days.
  • Commercial Driver's License preferred.
  • Willingness to travel long distances on short notice.
  • Ability to lift over 50 lbs.
  • Inspect rubber goods and PPE properly.
  • Willing to work overtime, including weekends and holidays.
Physical Demands:

Regularly required to talk, hear, stand, walk, handle objects, and reach. Must meet physical requirements to perform essential functions.

Work Environment:

Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, vibration, and extreme conditions at construction sites. Work outdoors in various weather conditions, often in noisy environments.
