Job description

Position Summary:

The Class B Lineman - Overhead is a semi-skilled position involved in the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical overhead distribution systems. The role requires working at various locations and may include travel to other states based on customer demands.

Essential Functions:
  • Work safely during new construction, maintenance, or repair of energized and de-energized overhead systems.
  • String overhead wire.
  • Set poles and anchors.
  • Install transformers, lightning arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches, and switchgear.
  • Troubleshoot primary and secondary systems.
  • Replace fuses in transformers and clear faulted circuits and systems.
  • Work with energized high-voltage systems with caution to ensure safety.
  • Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools.
  • Perform other related duties as required to complete the job.
  • Perform rigorous physical labor as needed.
  • Identify primary and secondary voltages on circuits.
  • Understand induced voltage and grounding procedures.
  • Use load buster tools safely.
  • Install and connect single-phase transformers.
  • Safely set poles and understand equipment setup and grounding.
  • Work at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Properly install and remove PPE and cover-up.
  • Check voltage on transformers and tie in primary conductors.
  • Climb various structures (wood, steel, etc.) with appropriate tools.
  • Phase out lines using phasing sticks and obtain one-shot recloser operations.
  • Conduct pre-job or tailgate briefings effectively.
  • Perform reconductoring jobs safely.
  • Work with live high-voltage distribution power lines, including glove work.
  • Install and remove mechanical jumpers safely.
  • Work outdoors frequently in inclement weather.
Minimum Requirements:
  • 2-5 years of experience.
  • Effective communication skills in English.
  • Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License permit within 60 days; CDL preferred.
  • Ability to travel long distances on short notice and work in various locations.
  • Lift in excess of 50 lbs.
  • Inspect PPE and rubber goods properly.
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Physical Demands:

Regularly required to talk, hear, stand, walk, handle, and reach. Must meet physical requirements to perform essential job functions effectively.

Work Environment:

Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, mechanical parts, vibration, and extreme conditions at construction sites. Work is performed outdoors in various weather conditions.
