Job description

Position Summary: The Class B Lineman - Overhead is a semi-skilled position involved in the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical overhead distribution systems. This role requires working at various locations and may include travel to other states based on customer demands.

Essential Functions:

1. Work safely during new construction, maintenance, or repair of energized and de-energized overhead systems.
2. String overhead wires.
3. Set poles and anchors.
4. Install transformers, lightning arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches, and switchgear.
5. Troubleshoot primary and secondary systems.
6. Replace fuses in transformers and clear faulted circuits and systems.
7. Work with energized high voltage systems requiring skill and caution to ensure safety.
8. Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools.
9. Perform other related duties as required to complete the job.
10. Perform rigorous physical labor.
11. Identify primary and secondary voltages on circuits.
12. Understand induced voltage and grounding procedures.
13. Use load buster tools appropriately.
14. Install and connect single-phase transformers.
15. Safely set poles.
16. Understand equipment setup and grounding.
17. Work at heights and in confined spaces.
18. Properly install and remove PPE and cover-up.
19. Check transformer voltages.
20. Connect primary conductors (tie-in).
21. Climb various structures (wood, steel, etc.) with appropriate tools.
22. Phase out lines using phasing sticks.
23. Obtain a one-shot on a recloser.
24. Conduct pre-job or tailgate safety briefings.
25. Perform reconductoring jobs safely.
26. Work live high voltage distribution lines with gloves.
27. Install and remove mechanical jumpers safely.
28. Work outside in various weather conditions.

Minimum Requirements:

• 2-5 years of experience.
• Effective reading and communication skills in English.
• Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License permit within 60 days of employment; CDL preferred.
• Willingness to travel long distances on short notice and work in various locations.
• Ability to lift over 50 lbs.
• Inspect PPE and rubber goods properly.
• Willing to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as required.

Physical Demands: Regularly talking, hearing, standing, walking, using hands, and reaching.

Work Environment: Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, mechanical parts, vibration, extreme conditions, and loud noise in outdoor weather conditions.
