Job description

Position Summary:

The Class B Lineman - Overhead is a semi-skilled position involved in the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical overhead distribution systems. The role requires working at various locations and may include travel to other states depending on customer demands.

Essential Functions:
  • Work safely during new construction, maintenance, or repair of energized and de-energized overhead systems.
  • Set poles and anchors.
  • Install transformers, lightning arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches, and switchgear.
  • Troubleshoot primary and secondary systems.
  • Replace fuses in transformers and clear faulted circuits and systems.
  • Work with energized high-voltage systems requiring skill and caution to ensure safety.
  • Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
  • Perform rigorous physical labor.
  • Identify primary and secondary voltages on circuits.
  • Be familiar with induced voltage and how to use a load buster tool.
  • Install and connect single-phase transformers.
  • Safely set poles and understand equipment setup and grounding.
  • Work at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Properly install and remove PPE and cover-up.
  • Check voltage on transformers and tie in primary conductors.
  • Climb various structures and possess necessary tools.
  • Use phasing sticks to phase out lines and obtain a one-shot on reclosers.
  • Conduct pre-job or tailgate briefings effectively.
  • Perform reconductoring jobs safely.
  • Work on live high-voltage distribution lines with gloves.
  • Install and remove mechanical jumpers safely.
  • Work outdoors frequently, often in inclement weather.
Minimum Requirements:
  • At least 5 years of recent field experience.
  • Effective communication skills in English.
  • Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License permit within 60 days.
  • Preference for candidates holding a Commercial Driver's License.
  • Willingness to travel long distances on short notice.
  • Ability to lift over 50 lbs and inspect PPE and rubber goods.
  • Willing to work overtime, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
Physical Demands:

Regularly required to talk, hear, stand, walk, handle, feel, and reach. Must meet physical requirements to perform essential functions.

Work Environment:

Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, vibration, and extreme conditions at construction sites. Noise levels can be loud. Work is performed outdoors in various weather conditions.
