Job summary

CapTech Consulting seeks a seasoned Azure PostgreSQL DBA to own data platform health, performance, and security for client engagements. You will work hands-on in a cloud-first environment, stabilizing current systems and designing the next generation with automation and monitoring.

Responsibilities include administering PostgreSQL in multi-environments, tuning performance, implementing HA/DR, automating provisioning with Terraform/Bicep, and enforcing security controls across Azure services.

Qualifications

• Five or more years administering PostgreSQL in production with tuning, backups, replication and incident response.
• Two+ years in Microsoft Azure with Azure Database for PostgreSQL Flexible Server.
• Strong SQL/PLpgSQL skills including EXPLAIN ANALYZE and diagnostics toolkit.
• Experience with IaC (Terraform, Bicep, or ARM) and CI/CD pipelines on Git-based VCS.
• Scripting proficiency in Python, Bash, or PowerShell for automation.
• Understanding of Azure networking and identity fundamentals (VNETs, private endpoints, Key Vault, Entra ID).

Responsibilities

• Administer PostgreSQL across development, test, and production, including Azure PostgreSQL Flexible Server and self-managed instances.
• Own end-to-end performance tuning: indexing, partitioning, autovacuum, and server parameters.
• Design and test high availability and disaster recovery configurations with RPO/RTO targets.
• Automate provisioning/config of DB infra using Terraform or Bicep; apply schema changes via CI/CD tools.
• Implement database security controls (Entra ID, encryption, private endpoints, Key Vault).
• Build observability with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Query Store; set alert thresholds.
• Manage capacity and cost; advise on reserved capacity and scaling.
• Collaborate with application engineers on data modeling, query design, and pooling (PgBouncer).
• Produce runbooks and knowledge transfer materials for client handover.
• Participate in on-call rotation for production support.

Job Description

AzurePostgreSQL Database Administrators atCapTechown the health, performance, and security of the data platforms our clients depend on every day. This is a consulting role, so you will work alongside engineers, architects, analysts, and client stakeholders to stabilize what exists today and design what comes next. The work is hands-on and cloud-first.

We are looking for a DBA who thinks like an engineer. You should be comfortable owning production incidents, but equally comfortableeliminatingthe conditions that caused them through automation, monitoring, and better design.

Responsibilities:

Administer PostgreSQL environments across development, test, and production, including Azure Database for PostgreSQL Flexible Server and self-managed instances on Azure virtual machines or AKS.

Own performance tuning end toend:analyze execution plans, design indexing and partitioning strategies, tuneautovacuumand server parameters, and resolve bloat, lock contention, and connection saturation.

Design and test high availability and disaster recovery configurations, including read replicas, zone-redundant deployments, point-in-time restore, and documented failover runbooks with defined RPO and RTO targets.

Automate provisioning and configuration of database infrastructure using Terraform orBicep, anddeliver schema changes through Azure Pipelines or GitHub Actions with tools such as Flyway or Liquibase.

Implement database security and compliance controls, including Microsoft Entra ID authentication, role and privilege design, row-level security, encryption at rest and in transit, private endpoints, and Key Vault secret rotation.

Build observability into the data tier with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Query Store, and define the alerting thresholds that catch problems before clients notice them.

Manage capacity and cost, right-sizingcomputeand storage tiers and advising clients on reserved capacity and scaling strategy.

Partner with application engineers on data modeling, query design, and connection pooling throughPgBounceror the built-in pooler.

Produce runbooks, standards, and knowledge transfer materials that leave client teams able tooperatethe platform after the engagement ends.

Participate in an on-call rotation for production support where the engagement requires it.

Qualifications

Five or moreyearsadministering PostgreSQL in production, including tuning, upgrades, backup and recovery, replication, and incident response.

Two or more years working in Microsoft Azure, with hands-on experience running Azure Database for PostgreSQL Flexible Server.

Strong SQL and PL/pgSQLskills, with fluency in EXPLAIN ANALYZE,pg_stat_statements, and the rest of the PostgreSQL diagnostic toolkit.

Working knowledge of Infrastructure as Code with Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templates, and CI/CD pipelines on Git-based version control.

Scriptingproficiencyin Python, Bash, or PowerShell for operational automation.

Understanding ofAzure networking and identity fundamentals, including virtual networks, private endpoints, Key Vault, and Microsoft Entra ID.

Experience supporting applications through a full SDLC using Agile or Waterfall methodologies.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to explain risk and tradeoffs directly to client stakeholders.

Consulting experience and familiarity with regulated environments such as financial services, healthcare, or the public sector are preferred.

Azure certifications such as AZ-104 or AZ-305 are a plus.
