Job summary

System One is seeking an Azure Platform Engineer for a long-term, hybrid onsite opportunity in Lenexa, KS. The candidate will design, build, and maintain the internal platform and self-service tooling across on-prem and Azure, with a focus on IaC, CI/CD, observability, and security.

Ideal candidates will have strong Azure IaaS/PaaS, Kubernetes, Terraform, Windows/Linux administration, Hyper‑V, and scripting skills. On-call support and incident response are also part of the role.

Qualifications

• Azure IaaS/PaaS experience (compute, networking, storage, governance).
• Windows Server and Linux administration in production environments.
• Hyper-V virtualization provisioning and troubleshooting.
• Kubernetes production experience (AKS or on-prem).
• Terraform IaC and CI/CD pipeline design (Azure DevOps / GitHub Actions).
• Strong scripting skills (PowerShell, Bash, Python).
• Entra ID and hybrid identity concepts.
• Networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, DNS, TLS, routing, firewalls.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain the internal platform and self-service tooling for deployments across on-prem and Azure.
• Automate provisioning of Windows Server and Linux hosts in on-prem Hyper‑V and Azure IaaS/PaaS.
• Build and operate Kubernetes clusters (AKS in Azure and on‑prem distributions) including networking and storage.
• Own infrastructure-as-code: create reusable modules and templates for reproducible environments.
• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation to reduce manual handoffs.
• Implement observability: monitoring, logging, alerting, dashboards for infrastructure and apps.
• Harden platform for security/compliance and produce evidence for audits.
• Document platform capabilities and runbooks; support internal teams in adoption.
• Participate in on-call/incident response and drive post-incident improvements.

System One is seeking an Azure Platform Engineer for a long-term, hybrid onsite opportunity in Lenexa, KS. Ideal candidates will have strong experience across Azure IaaS/PaaS, Kubernetes/AKS, Terraform, Windows/Linux administration, Hyper‑V, CI/CD, Scripting, Networking and Entra ID. This role is best suited for a platform-focused engineer who has experience building and operating platform tooling, including infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD automation, observability, and security/compliance capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain the internal platform and self-service tooling that engineering and IT teams use to deploy and run applications across on-prem and Azure.
• Manage and automate provisioning of Windows Server and Linux hosts in both on-prem (Hyper‑V) and Azure IaaS/PaaS environments.
• Build and operate Kubernetes clusters (AKS in Azure, and/or on-prem distributions) including networking, storage, ingress, and workload onboarding.
• Own infrastructure-as-code: author and maintain reusable modules and templates so environments are reproducible and version-controlled.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, golden paths, and deployment automation that let teams ship safely without manual handoffs.
• Implement observability across the estate: monitoring, logging, alerting, and dashboards for both infrastructure and application health.
• Harden the platform to meet security and compliance requirements, and produce the evidence/automation needed to sustain audits.
• Document platform capabilities, runbooks, and standards, and support internal teams adopting them.
• Participate in on-call / incident response and drive post-incident improvements.

Requirements

• Strong Azure experience across IaaS and PaaS: compute, networking (VNets, NSGs, load balancing), storage, and governance (subscriptions, RBAC, policy).
• Solid Windows Server administration (Active Directory, Group Policy, PowerShell) in a production environment.
• Solid Linux administration (common distros, systemd, shell, package management, troubleshooting).
• Hyper‑V virtualization: provisioning, management, and troubleshooting in production.
• Kubernetes in production: cluster operations, Helm, ingress, secrets, and workload troubleshooting (AKS a plus).
• Infrastructure-as-code with Terraform CI/CD pipeline design (Azure DevOps and/or GitHub Actions).
• Strong scripting (PowerShell, Bash, Python).
• Entra ID (Azure AD) and hybrid identity concepts.
• Networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, DNS, TLS, routing, firewalls, hybrid connectivity.
