Job summary

State of Minnesota MNIT seeks an experienced Azure Database Engineer to design, implement, and support Azure databases, Data Lakes, and Data Lakehouse solutions. You will consolidate data from 87 county databases into a centralized Azure environment and mentor other Database Engineers.

This contract role offers remote or hybrid work options in Minnesota, with standard weekday hours and a start aligned to the DCYF project schedule.

Position Overview

The State of Minnesota (MNIT), in partnership with the Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF), is seeking an experienced Azure Database Engineer to support the modernization of the Comprehensive Child Welfare Information System (CCWIS). This role will focus on designing, implementing, and supporting Azure databases, Data Lakes, and Data Lakehouse solutions while consolidating data from 87 county databases into a centralized Azure environment. The selected candidate will also mentor other Database Engineers and help implement secure, scalable, and high-performing cloud data solutions.

• Strong experience with CI/CD pipelines

• Experience with Azure Data Factory, Azure Monitor, Azure Resource Manager, Azure CLI/PowerShell, SQL Analytics, and Query Performance Insight
• Experience implementing backup and disaster recovery solutions
• Experience with Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), encryption, and network security
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Experience mentoring technical team members

• 7+ years of Azure database engineering experience
• Azure SQL Database, Managed Instances, and Elastic Pools
