Job summary

econsulting is seeking a senior data architect to take over an existing Azure data platform, bring structure, and design its target architecture, including support for GenAI-based solutions. Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in a similar role.
• Proven hands-on Azure data architecture with Cosmos DB, Synapse, and production RAG/agentic solutions.
• Deep Cosmos DB expertise: data modeling, partition keys, RU/cost optimization, scaling, Change Feed.
• At least one production RAG or agentic project with ownership of the data layer (embeddings, chunking, vector search).
• Hands-on Synapse experience (Pipelines, Spark, Serverless and Dedicated SQL pools).
• Experience with Databricks, SQL Managed Instance / T-SQL, ADLS / Lakehouse architecture, and Azure Functions.

Responsibilities

We're looking for someone to take over an existing Azure data platform, bring structure to it, and design its target architecture, including support for GenAI-based solutions. This role suits someone who enjoys getting up to speed quickly in a new environment, giving teams concrete guidance, and thinking long-term at the same time.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess the current Azure data platform and prepare a roadmap, separating quick wins from the target architecture.
• Create architecture documentation and diagrams that engineering teams can start implementing within the first weeks of the project.
• Design the data layer for GenAI applications (RAG, agentic solutions), covering ingestion, data preparation, storage, and retrieval, using Cosmos DB.
• Design flexible, metadata-driven ingestion supporting multiple sources, including documents and unstructured data.
• Recommend the right tooling (including Databricks, Synapse, and Azure Data Factory) based on the project's actual needs.

Required Skills and Experience

• At least 5 years of experience on a similar position.
• Proven hands‑on experience combining Azure data architecture, Cosmos DB, Synapse, and production RAG/agentic solutions, clearly reflected in your project history (with dates).
• In‑depth Cosmos DB expertise: data modeling, partition key design, RU and cost optimization, scaling, and Change Feed.
• At least one production (not POC) RAG or agentic project where you personally owned the data layer, including chunking, embeddings, and vector search.
• Practical Synapse experience (Pipelines, Spark, Serverless and Dedicated SQL pools), including making architectural decisions yourself.
• Experience with Databricks, SQL Managed Instance / T‑SQL, ADLS / Lakehouse architecture, and Azure Functions.

Nice to have

• Ability to compare Synapse with Fabric, Databricks, and Azure SQL and recommend the right fit.
• Experience modernizing legacy data platforms.
