Job summary

OCTO is seeking an hands-on Azure Cloud Architect to lead its cloud build-out, centered on Microsoft Azure with supporting AWS workloads and GovCloud. You will design secure, governed environments, deliver Terraform-based infrastructure, and oversee migrations while guiding the Azure Cloud Engineer.

The role requires 8+ years in infrastructure, strong Azure expertise, and experience with Terraform, CI/CD, and identity governance. Collaboration with agency CIOs and security teams is essential.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in infrastructure engineering, with at least 5 years designing and building in Microsoft Azure.
• Hands-on Terraform experience in production, including reusable modules and remote state management.
• Experience building infrastructure CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps (or GitHub Actions with transferable skills).
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Entra ID, conditional access, and identity governance.
• Experience planning or leading migrations of on-premises virtualized workloads to Azure.
• Working knowledge of AWS to operate existing workloads.
• Experience leading or mentoring engineers, including code review.
• Strong written communication with architecture documentation.

Responsibilities

• Lead cloud architecture for multi-cloud environment (Azure primary, AWS GovCloud).
• Design secure, governed environments and landing zones using Azure AD, RBAC, policy, and Defender for Cloud.
• Deliver infrastructure as code via Terraform; manage migrations and workload modernization.
• Provide architectural oversight for Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) and Nerdio Manager integration.
• Define monitoring, backup, DR standards and cost management aligned to agency chargeback.
• Mentor Azure Cloud Engineer and ensure primary/backup ownership for critical systems.
• Maintain up-to-date architecture diagrams, runbooks, and runbooks in documentation.
