Job summary

The DC Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO) is seeking a hands-on Azure Cloud Architect to lead its multi-cloud build-out (Azure primary, AWS Commercial and GovCloud). This 100% onsite role in Washington DC focuses on secure landing zones, governance, Terraform-based infrastructure as code, and Azure Virtual Desktop oversight.

Applicants should have 8+ years in infrastructure engineering and 5+ years building in Azure, plus Terraform production experience and AWS familiarity.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in infrastructure engineering.
• 5+ years designing and building in Microsoft Azure.
• 5+ years Terraform in production; CI/CD in Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.
• Strong Microsoft Entra ID, conditional access, and identity governance.
• AWS experience (EC2, VPC, IAM, S3); mentoring engineers.

Responsibilities

• Lead OCTO's multi-cloud build-out as technical lead and cloud-architecture SME.
• Design secure, governed environments for OCTO and partner agencies with clear options and tradeoffs.
• Own the Azure landing zone (management groups, subscriptions, RBAC, policy, Defender for Cloud).
• Deliver IaC with Terraform and CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps.
• Plan and execute migrations of on-prem VMware workloads to Azure.
• Provide architectural oversight of Azure Virtual Desktop including Nerdio integration.
