Title AY25-26 Half (.5) Graduate Assistant - Library Instruction

Position Description

The Half Graduate Assistant (.5 GA) will work 10 hours per week and receive up to 15 credits of tuition and student fee waivers: 6 for fall, 6 for spring and 3 for summer.

Overview

With the increasing demand for digital learning resources and the need for continuous assessment of library services, the Reference Department requires additional support to meet these objectives. A dedicated GA will enable the department to create high-quality instructional videos that we can incorporate on our library website to enhance information literacy skills in learning how to use the library’s resources. And, to assess data to inform decision-making and service improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Video Creation:
    • Develop and produce instructional videos on information literacy topics, database tutorials, and library services.
    • Collaborate with librarians to identify key topics and design engaging, accessible content.
    • Edit and finalize videos using appropriate software.
    • Ensure all videos meet accessibility standards (e.g., closed captioning).
  • Data Assessment:
    • Collect and analyze usage statistics for library services, including reference transactions and instructional sessions.
    • Assist in the development and distribution of user surveys.
    • Compile reports summarizing findings and identifying trends.
    • Present data insights to inform service improvements.
Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Enrollment in a graduate program at Bridgewater State University, preferably in Communication Studies, Computer Science and related fields.
  • Experience with video creation and editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere, Camtasia, or similar).
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with data collection tools (e.g., Google Forms, Excel, Infographics, statistical software).
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Physical Demands
  • The graduate assistant will be required to sit for extended periods while working on video creation and editing tasks, as well as occasional standing and walking when assisting with assessments or gathering data.
  • Some lifting of equipment (up to 15 pounds) may be required.
  • Additionally, there may be periods of focused screen time for video development and data analysis.
