Job description

The Half (.5) Graduate Assistant (GA) will work 10 hours per week and receive up to 15 credits of tuition and student fee waivers: 6 for fall, 6 for spring, and 3 for summer.

Overview/Responsibilities
  • Supporting Dr. Joyce Rain Anderson and Dr. Lisa Litterio, Writing Program Administrators (WPAs).
  • Oversee the university's first-year writing program, including Enhanced 101 courses, ENGL 101 (Writing Rhetorically), and ENGL 102 (Writing Rhetorically with Sources).
  • Develop online and web-based materials focusing on pedagogical practices to support faculty in teaching first-year writing.
  • Research best practices related to large language models (LLMs) and writing, especially in light of campus-wide discussions on AI.
  • Assist in professional development, such as organizing external speakers knowledgeable in AI and writing practices.
  • Supervise undergraduate writing fellows who support students in the Enhanced 101 courses.
  • Support WPAs in supervising writing fellows, including managing office hours, verifying hours, and developing pedagogical programming.

Opportunities also include creating social media content on first-year writing practices and pursuing individual research interests.
