Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking an AWS Software Engineer to join our team supporting the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Datacenter Consolidation and Cloud Optimization (DCCO) program, providing Tier 3 support for the DHS Homeland Advanced Recognition Technology (HART) biometric system. The Tier 3 team maintains the HART infrastructure, installing and configuring system software and hardware, monitoring performance, resolving tickets within JIRA, and supporting incident troubleshooting. The team interacts closely with the government customer to meet system objectives, provide updates, and perform on-call support approximately 4-6 times a year. This role is fully telework with core hours from 9 am to 3 pm EST, Monday to Friday, and requires residence and work within the United States.

Day-to-Day Roles and Responsibilities
  • Develop, document, communicate, and enforce network technology policies.
  • Install and configure software and hardware, including servers, devices, and firewalls.
  • Monitor system performance and storage utilization.
  • Plan hardware/software upgrades for system growth.
  • Manage user accounts, assets, and security permissions according to policies.
  • Support escalated help desk requests and perform system administrator activities.
  • Review system logs, troubleshoot issues, and document root causes and resolutions.
  • Support Active Directory/LDAP, certificate services, network communications, and security compliance.
  • Provide Tier III support for incidents and problems.
  • Work independently and as part of a team to achieve project objectives.
  • Provide on-call support approximately 4-6 weeks per year.
Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School diploma with 6 years of experience.
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain/maintain a U.S. government clearance (DHS EOD required before start).
  • 5 years of relevant IT experience.
  • Experience in Cloud Systems Administration.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • AWS experience
  • Expertise in RHEL, Windows, and open-source technologies
  • Knowledge of OpenShift, Splunk, Ansible, Jenkins, JFrog, and similar tools
  • Experience with Java Message Service (JMS) API and message brokers like ActiveMQ
  • Development experience in Java and/or Golang
  • Experience managing web service applications with queue-based messaging
