Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional Java development experience.
• AWS Cloud experience including ECS Fargate, Lambda, Aurora, Airflow.
• Experience with DB2 and/or Snowflake in data migration or cloud modernization.
• Hands-on AWS infrastructure deployment, configuration and testing for resiliency.
• Ability to understand, analyze and rebuild on-premises apps for the cloud.
• Strong communication and self-starting abilities for independent work.

We are seeking an AWS Java Engineer for a 9-month contract position based in Jersey City, New Jersey. This role supports a data migration and cloud modernization project for a financial services organization, focusing on rebuilding an existing on-premises application into AWS.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and understand existing on-premises Java and DB2 applications, including current functionality and business requirements
• Design and implement cloud-based solutions using AWS services, including ECS Fargate, Lambda, Aurora, Airflow, and Snowflake
• Perform hands-on Java development to migrate and rebuild platform functionality into AWS
• Execute AWS infrastructure deployment, configuration, and testing with focus on resiliency and reliability
• Lead data migration efforts from on-premises DB2 environments to AWS-based solutions
• Gather functional requirements directly from users and stakeholders, translating business needs into technical solutions
• Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including testing and validation of migrated applications
• Drive implementation independently with minimal oversight, taking ownership of assigned technical areas

Qualifications

• Required

  • 7+ years of professional development experience with strong hands-on Java coding skills
  • Demonstrated AWS Cloud experience, including ECS Fargate, Lambda, Aurora, and Airflow
  • Experience with DB2 and/or Snowflake, particularly in data migration or cloud modernization contexts
  • Hands-on experience with AWS infrastructure deployment, configuration, and testing, including resiliency design
  • Proven ability to understand, analyze, and rebuild on-premises applications for cloud environments
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to work independently and drive implementation
  • Excellent communication skills and experience gathering requirements directly from business users
  • Senior-level mindset as a self-starter capable of working with minimal supervision and hitting the ground running

• Preferred

  • Hands-on experience with AI development tools such as Claude or Copilot
  • Familiarity with security, financial controls, or highly regulated application environments
  • Proven experience migrating data and applications from DB2 or other on-premises environments into AWS
  • Background in Financial Services industry
