Job summary

Construction Material Testing seeks a Certified Welding Inspector II to inspect structural steel, pipe, and fabrications per AWS and project requirements. You will witness tests, review WPS/PQR, and direct NDT, signing reports relied upon by engineers and officials.

Role involves both shop and field work, with travel as needed. A current AWS CWI with 2+ years experience is required; ICC steel/bolting certification is a strong plus and sponsorship is available for the right candidate.

Qualifications

• AWS CWI with 2+ years inspecting under it.
• Working knowledge of AWS D1.1 and at least one of D1.5, D1.8, ASME IX, or API 1104.
• ICC structural steel and bolting certification preferred (sponsored if not held).
• Able to defend a rejection to a fabricator and document it so the retest closes.

Responsibilities

• Perform and sign visual weld inspections with accept/reject authority to governing code.
• Review WPS, PQR, and welder qualification records.
• Witness welder performance qualification tests.
• Direct and interpret nondestructive testing.
• Write repair instructions and nonconformance reports.
• Inspect fabrication shops and field erection, including high-strength bolting and base plates.
• Prepare inspection reports for engineer of record and building official.
