An AWS Cloud Architect designs, deploys, and manages scalable, secure, and cost-effective cloud infrastructure on Amazon Web Services while aligning technical blueprints with business goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Architecture Design: Translate business requirements into high-level system diagrams, network topologies, and multi-tier cloud strategies following the AWS Well-Architected Framework.
- Core AWS Implementation: Build and manage environments using key services like Amazon EC2, VPC, S3, RDS, IAM, and AWS Lambda
- Migration & Modernization: Lead the migration of on-premises servers, databases, and applications to the cloud, including adopting containerization (Docker, Amazon EKS) and serverless patterns.
- Security & Compliance: Establish identity and access controls, network firewalls, encryption standards, and disaster recovery or high-availability protocols.
- Cost & Performance Optimization: Audit cloud spend, right-size compute instances, and tune resource allocation for efficiency.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as the bridge between executive stakeholders, development teams, and DevOps engineers. As noted, a cloud architect's daily focus is primarily on strategic design and alignment rather than heavy coding.
Required Technical Skills
- AWS Services: Deep mastery of compute, storage, database, networking (Route 53, Direct Connect, VPN), and security tools.
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Proficiency in Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or Ansible.
- Containers & Orchestration: Experience with Docker and Kubernetes (EKS).
- DevOps & CI/CD: Familiarity with Git, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps.
- Operating Systems: Strong Linux and Windows administration foundation
