Position Title: Award Manager, Grants Management & Compliance

Reports to: Associate Director of Award Management

Location: Boston, MA, or remote within the U.S., with up to 15% international travel

Position Overview

Partners In Health (PIH) seeks a detail-oriented, results-driven Award Manager with at least 5 years of project management experience in international development, including stewarding partner relations for complex and high-compliance awards. The ideal candidate will have strong cross-cultural competence and excellent interpersonal and organizational skills to provide strategic award management guidance and support to PIH teams implementing projects at PIH care delivery and academic sites.

Based at the PIH coordination site in Boston, MA, or remote in the U.S., the Award Manager will serve as a key contact for award management with project teams, donors, and other partners. They will collaborate with technical, operational, and administrative colleagues to establish and maintain management structures ensuring project deliverables are on scope, schedule, budget, and compliant with contractual, donor, and PIH policies.

The Award Manager is expected to work independently with limited supervision, reporting to the Associate Director of Award Management.

Responsibilities
  • Act as the primary point of contact with external stakeholders (donors and partners) and internal stakeholders (PIH leadership and staff), representing PIH and the projects at meetings, ensuring effective communication regarding project progress, challenges, or changes, and requesting support as needed.
  • Provide insights into donor regulations, expectations, operations, and systems.
  • Clarify, communicate, and manage award-specific compliance guidance and internal processes with project teams and stakeholders.
  • Ensure projects are adequately staffed, roles are clear, and staff understand organizational and donor requirements, project indicators, and deliverables.
  • Establish and maintain award management structures, processes, and tools (e.g., communication plans, workplans, reporting calendars, risk logs), providing training and ongoing guidance.
  • Monitor project financials, ensuring accurate expense coding and allocations.
  • Lead development of high-quality donor reports, coordinating reviews, editing, and timely dissemination.
  • Support project teams in monitoring document quality, reviewing subrecipient scopes, and preparing for audits and close-outs.
  • Coordinate with grant contracts team on contractual documents and amendments.
  • Guide and support project teams in award close-out processes.
  • Assist in proposal budget development as needed.
  • Support organization-wide initiatives to enhance award management practices.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred in public health, public administration, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of project management experience in international development, including managing complex awards.
  • Knowledge of major bilateral, multilateral, and foundation regulations.
  • Experience leading diverse, cross-cultural project teams.
  • Excellent project management skills and strategic thinking.
  • Proficiency in developing and adapting project management tools and processes.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication and editing skills.
  • Ability to present complex information clearly and concisely.
  • Interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively across departments and countries under tight deadlines.
  • Strong computer skills, including financial systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Willingness to travel internationally up to 15%.
  • Fluency in Spanish is strongly preferred.
