Awake Overnight Low Threshold Housing Resident Assistant

Job Overview

The Awake Overnight Low Threshold Housing Resident Assistant is responsible for managing and maintaining the residence, fostering a supportive environment for residents, and supporting daily operations. The Resident Assistant reports to the Program Director or their designee.

Location

Visions of Victory, Jamaica Plain — a low threshold transitional living program using a Housing First, harm reduction model, serving individuals facing homelessness, substance use, overdose risk, and health/mental health challenges.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Maintain professional standards, ethics, boundaries, and confidentiality.
  • Ensure the residence is safe, clean, and hazard-free.
  • Meet fire safety standards.
  • Enforce policies promoting a safe, inclusive community.
  • Engage in relationship building, crisis intervention, motivational interviewing, and conflict de-escalation.
  • Document observations and incidents accurately.
  • Support inventory management of client belongings and supplies.
  • Assist with administrative tasks like filing, phone coverage, and record maintenance.
  • Communicate relevant information during and after shifts via reports.
  • Participate in supervision, meetings, and training.
  • Conduct safety and wellness checks regularly.
  • Work collaboratively with the team to provide client-centered services.
  • Must be awake for the full shift.
Non-Essential Responsibilities
  • Support agency events, advocacy, and fundraising activities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Effective working relationship with diverse populations.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowledge or willingness to learn about addiction, recovery, and harm reduction.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to relate compassionately to residents.
  • CPR certification (can be obtained upon hire).
  • TB screening (can be obtained upon hire).
  • Three professional references, including at least two from supervisors.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with families, youth, and trauma.
  • Experience in crisis intervention and milieu management.
  • Knowledge of health issues like HIV/AIDS, hepatitis, homelessness, substance use, STIs, and sex work.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and databases.
  • Valid Massachusetts driver’s license with acceptable driving points.
Position Details

Part-time, 16 hours/week, Sunday-Monday, 11pm-7am, on-site.

Rate: $22.28/hr.
