Job summary

Audio Video Excellence (AVX) in Birmingham, AL is seeking an Installation Technician to install, configure, and support residential and commercial AV and low‑voltage systems. You will pull and test cables, mount equipment, and troubleshoot complex systems to ensure top‑quality results.

The ideal candidate brings 3–5 years of AV installation experience, strong customer service skills, and the ability to work independently or with a team.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 3-5 years of experience installing residential/commercial AV or low-voltage systems.
• Experience terminating/testing structured cabling.
• Troubleshoot basic audio, video, networking, and control systems.
• CTS certification preferred or willingness to obtain.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do

As an Installation Technician, you'll be responsible for the installation, configuration, and support of a wide variety of residential and commercial low‑voltage systems. Your responsibilities will include:

• Install audio, video, home theater, and commercial AV systems
• Pull, route, terminate, label, and test low‑voltage cabling (Cat5e/Cat6, fiber, speaker wire, coax, etc.)
• Install and mount televisions, projection systems, screens, speakers, cameras, racks, wall plates, and other AV equipment
• Configure and troubleshoot audio, video, networking, and control systems
• Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and installation documentation
• Perform system testing to ensure all equipment operates properly before project completion
• Maintain clean, organized, and professional job sites
• Provide exceptional customer service while representing AVX professionally
• Accurately document completed work and communicate project updates with supervisors and project managers
• Follow all company safety procedures and industry best practices

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate is dependable, mechanically inclined, customer-focused, and enjoys working with technology.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required
• 3-5 years of experience installing residential and/or commercial audio/video or low‑voltage systems
• Experience terminating and testing structured cabling
• Ability to troubleshoot basic audio, video, networking, and control system issues
• Experience with major AV manufacturers and control platforms is a plus (Control4, Crestron, Savant, Sonos, Lutron, Cisco Meraki, etc.)
• InfoComm CTS certification preferred (or willingness to obtain)
• Strong computer and mobile device proficiency
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
• Excellent communication and customer service skills
• Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with a team
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 75 pounds
• Ability to climb ladders and work at various heights
• Comfortable working in attics, crawl spaces, ceilings, and construction environments
• Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and perform physical work throughout the day
• Ability to work efficiently while meeting project deadlines
