Chubb Tempest Re USA LLC Management and Professional Liability group is seeking an AVP, Underwriter to assist in growing a suite of Professional Liability products, focusing on D&O, Miscellaneous Professional and Medical Malpractice Liability. Primary responsibilities will include underwriting new and renewal business, building and maintaining strong relationships with existing and potential clients. You will work in a team environment, demonstrate a strong customer focus that will expand Chubb Tempest Re’s brand. This position is a full-time role and reports directly to the SVP, Professional Liability located in Stamford, CT.

Roles & Responsibilities, including but not limited to:

  • Underwrite and negotiate complex customer accounts to minimize risk and maximize profitability.
  • Perform risks assessment including pricing analysis, oversight of broker submissions, and coordination with actuaries regarding submission specifications and information. Identify risk exposures, special or common hazards, and appropriate controls. Analyze claims and quantify losses.
  • Understand loss trends, loss triangles, and ratemaking. Quantify risk based on experience history.
  • Work with Contracts in the review of treaty contract wordings to ensure they meet company requirements.
  • Work collaboratively as well as independently and make referrals as required.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with financial lines peers, leaders, and internal partners across functional areas.
  • Foster and maintain external relationships with brokers to market and sell products.
  • Stay on top of trends and developments within the space.
  • Participate in team projects and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree.
  • 5 - 7 years professional liability underwriting experience in Commercial & Financial Institutions Public, Private and Not-for-Profit Management Liability strongly preferred (including D&O, EPLI, Fiduciary, Crime/Fidelity). Other underwriting experience considered: Errors & Omissions, Transactional Liability, and Medical Professional Liability.
  • RPLU, professional designation preferred, but not required.
  • Solid writing and communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to think originally, be willing to challenge ideas, and be receptive to constructive feedback.
  • Strong collaborative and critical thinking skills and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Excellent organizational, desk management, and prioritization skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be positive, self-motivated, and possess strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Possess strong technical, analytical, and quantitative skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to successfully negotiate in difficult situations with agents and brokers.
  • Solution-oriented team player with a strong relationship management skill set working with both internal and external stakeholders and customers.
  • Proficiency in advanced Excel functionalities, including:
    • Strong knowledge of Pivot tables, data visualization, and spreadsheet modeling techniques to analyze and present financial data effectively.
    • Ability to develop Excel-based financial models, macros, and automation of repetitive tasks.
  • Willingness and ability to travel 10-15%.
  • Ability to be onsite in office 5 days a week.
