Job summary

Southern Methodist University is seeking an experienced Associate Vice President and Dean of Students (AVP-DOS) to provide strategic leadership for a comprehensive portfolio focused on student wellbeing, safety, advocacy, and success. The AVP-DOS reports to the Senior Vice President for Student Affairs and partners across divisions to support a growing student population.

The ideal candidate will have a master's degree in higher education administration or related field, with a terminal degree

Qualifications

Master's degree in higher education administration, student affairs, counseling, or related field.
Terminal degree preferred.
Significant leadership experience in student affairs and crisis management.
Experience with Title IX, campus climate, and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

Oversee areas central to student health, wellbeing, safety, and support (Student Conduct & Community Standards; Student Advocacy & Support).
Lead crisis response efforts and incident management; ensure regulatory compliance across the division.
Collaborate with SMU schools to support undergraduate and graduate students and align divisional priorities.
Provide strategic vision, executive oversight, and mentorship for a high-touch student affairs team.
