AVP, Principal Mobile Software Development Engineer

Role Summary/Purpose:

The Assistant Vice President, Senior Android Engineer is passionate about working in a hands-on mobile application coding, design, and architecture environment. This role involves leading by example to ensure timely and high-quality project delivery. Deep expertise in Android development and leadership skills are essential. The primary responsibility is to serve as Technical Lead for our MySynchrony team, focusing on Android development for one of our feature teams. This role also offers the opportunity to be part of Synchrony Financial's Innovation Station, a hub for innovation and thought leadership. Essential Responsibilities:
  • Lead a development team through all phases of the Agile development lifecycle.
  • Identify and specify features based on business needs.
  • Manage and mentor a team of software developers.
  • Implement new technologies and facilitate their adoption.
  • Develop applications using Jetpack Compose and Kotlin.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including UX designers, product managers, and architects.
  • Mentor team members and influence project direction.
  • Ensure compliance with architectural, security, and technology standards.
  • Contribute to the architectural strategy and technology roadmap.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and lead sprint activities.
  • Maintain high code quality through testing and QA processes.
  • Analyze production issues, troubleshoot, and implement fixes.
  • Stay updated with the latest technologies and industry trends.
  • Provide on-call support as needed.
  • Identify opportunities for system improvements.
  • Coordinate with third-party vendors for software development and integration.
  • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • Minimum 4 years of application development experience.
  • At least 3 years of Android development experience using object-oriented design patterns.
Desired Characteristics:
  • Experience with REST web services.
  • Over 4 years of Android development experience.
  • Proficiency with libraries like Coroutines and Jetpack Compose.
  • Experience with CI/CD environments.
  • Ability to write comprehensive unit, integration, and UI tests.
  • Knowledge of the mobile industry.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong team collaboration abilities.
  • Experience with financial or banking applications.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Familiarity with iOS development tools like SwiftUI, Swift, UIKit.
Additional Information:

The salary range is $110,000 - $185,000 USD annually, with eligibility for bonuses. Compensation depends on experience, skills, and market adjustments in CA, NY Metro, and Seattle.
