Role Summary/Purpose:

We are looking for an AVP Principal Data Engineer to lead the development of a consumer-centric, low latency analytic environment leveraging data technologies and transforming legacy systems. This role offers an exciting, fast-paced, and challenging work environment, playing a key role in high-level decision making across Synchrony.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, and lead data engineering applications in highly agile teams.
  • Lead a data engineering team and contribute individually when required.
  • Implement ETL/ELT on big data platforms like Cloudera Hadoop, using Ab Initio, Spark, Hive, Kafka, RDBMS (Oracle, MySQL), NoSQL (Cassandra), and cloud solutions.
  • Oversee design, development, testing, and production deployment.
  • Work with batch and real-time data pipelines in a DevOps environment.
  • Collaborate with product owners, managers, and scrum teams in an Agile framework.
  • Partner with architects to design scalable, resilient data applications.
  • Drive program delivery and technical standards across data lakes and warehouses.
  • Mentor and coach team members, promote company values, and handle other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field and 4-5 years of experience in ELT/ETL/Data warehousing.
  • Or, in lieu of degree, certification and 8-9 years of relevant experience.
Desired Characteristics:
  • Experience as a Data Engineering Lead in an Agile environment.
  • Deep understanding of ETL, data lakes, and analytics.
  • Experience managing mission-critical data applications.
  • Proficiency with batch and real-time pipelines, AWS, and data automation.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Experience with credit card, banking, or fintech sectors preferred.

The salary range is $110,000 - $185,000 USD annually, plus potential bonuses. Actual compensation depends on experience and skills.

Eligibility requirements include being 18+, having a high school diploma or equivalent, and passing background checks. Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We do not sponsor visas.
