Job summary

Resolution Life US is seeking a Manager of Derivatives Accounting to oversee GAAP and statutory close, financial reporting, and analytics for the company’s derivatives portfolio. The role reports to the Head of Derivatives Accounting and collaborates with third‑party providers and asset managers to ensure accurate investment accounting records.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • CPA preferred.
  • 6–10+ years of experience with 4+ years of derivatives accounting and/or insurance industry experience required.
  • Expertise in US GAAP and Statutory Accounting Principles.
  • Experience with Clearwater Analytics or Third-Party Investment Accounting model preferred.
  • Strong research, verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on accounting and reporting for derivatives.
  • Oversee and perform the monthly accounting close over derivatives.
  • Perform balance sheet and income statement attribution and variance analysis.
  • Manage relationship with third‑party accounting vendor to properly account for derivatives.
  • Compile and/or review footnotes and schedules for U.S. GAAP and Statutory financial statements.
  • Collaborate with Investment Front Office on new derivative strategies or investment managers.
  • Evaluate investment results and prepare analytics package for finance leaders.
  • Research accounting guidance on new derivative strategies or instruments.
  • Identify manual journal entries needed for accurate results; prepare/review entries.
  • Consult with Investment Management, Third‑Party Asset Managers, and Cedants.
  • Execute internal financial controls to ensure accurate results.
  • Assist and develop junior staff on tasks.
  • Provide reporting to reinsurance cedants.
  • Support continuous improvement.

Overview

As Manager of Derivatives Accounting, you will oversee GAAP and statutory accounting close, financial reporting, and analytics for the company’s derivatives portfolio. You will report to the Head of Derivatives Accounting and work closely with third‑party investment accounting service providers and asset managers to ensure accurate and complete investment accounting records. You will also collaborate with the Reporting team to ensure appropriate GAAP and statutory reporting and disclosures, and with Finance to support analysis and communication of investment results.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on accounting and reporting for derivatives
  • Oversee and perform the monthly accounting close over derivatives
  • Perform balance sheet and income statement attribution and variance analysis
  • Manage relationship with third‑party accounting vendor to properly account for derivatives
  • Compile and/or review footnotes and schedules for U.S. GAAP and Statutory financial statements

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • Certified Public Accountant preferred
  • 6–10+ years of experience with 4+ years of derivatives accounting and/or insurance industry experience required
  • Expertise in US GAAP and Statutory Accounting Principles
  • Experience with Clearwater Analytics or Third‑Party Investment Accounting model preferred
  • Strong research, verbal and written communication skills
  • Confidence, credibility and character to liaise across corporate functions
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to develop, coach, and train others in an organizational setting
  • Sense of urgency and high degree of flexibility – ability to conform to shifting priorities, demands, and timelines
