Resolution Life seeks a Manager of Derivatives Accounting in the United States to oversee GAAP close, reporting, and analytics for the derivatives portfolio. You will lead a team, manage third‑party vendors, and collaborate with investment managers to ensure accurate financial records and disclosures.

The role requires 6–10+ years in derivatives accounting and strong US GAAP/Statutory knowledge, with a track record of guiding junior staff and driving process improvements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • CPA preferred.
  • 6–10+ years of experience with 4+ years of derivatives accounting and/or insurance industry experience.
  • Expertise in US GAAP and Statutory Accounting Principles.
  • Experience with Clearwater Analytics or a Third‑Party Investment Accounting model preferred.
  • Strong research, verbal and written communication skills to convey technical issues clearly.
  • Confidence, credibility, and character to liaise across corporate functions and maintain strong working relationships.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to develop, coach, and train others.
  • Sense of urgency and high flexibility to adjust to shifting priorities and timelines.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on accounting and reporting for derivatives.
  • Oversee and perform the monthly accounting close for derivatives.
  • Perform balance sheet and income statement attribution and variance analysis.
  • Manage relationships with third‑party accounting vendors to ensure proper derivative accounting.
  • Compile and review footnotes and schedules for U.S. GAAP and Statutory financial statements.
  • Collaborate with the Investment Front Office on new derivative strategies or investment managers.
  • Evaluate investment results and prepare analytics packages for finance leaders.
  • Research accounting and reporting guidance on new derivative strategies or instruments.
  • Identify and prepare manual journal entries needed for accurate financial results; review manual entries.
  • Consult with Investment Management, Third‑Party Asset Managers, and Cedants.
  • Execute key internal financial controls to ensure accurate investment accounting results.
  • Assist and develop junior staff on daily, monthly, and quarterly tasks.
  • Provide reporting and supplemental information to reinsurance cedants.
  • Support an environment of continuous improvement.

Job description

As Manager of Derivatives Accounting, you will oversee the GAAP and STAT accounting close, financial reporting, and financial analytics related to the company’s derivatives portfolio. You will report to the Head of Derivatives Accounting and work closely with the third‑party investment accounting service provider, asset managers, the Reporting team, and Finance to ensure accurate, complete, and timely investments accounting records and disclosures. You will provide oversight and development for junior staff and manage vendor relationships to support a reliable close cycle. The ideal candidate is a self‑starter with strong problem‑solving and decision‑making skills who can own and resolve complex issues involving multiple stakeholders.
