Job summary

California State University San Marcos is seeking an Associate Vice President and Dean of Students (Administrator III) to provide strategic direction for the Dean of Students Area and to serve as a campus-wide resource on student rights and responsibilities. The AVP reports to the Vice President of Student Affairs and advises ASI on related matters.

This is a full-time, exempt position under the Management Personnel Plan (MPP) with a broad benefits package and on-campus requirements.

Job Overview

Reporting to the Vice President of Student Affairs, the Associate Vice President and Dean of Students is responsible for the strategic direction and oversight of the Dean of Students Area. The Dean of Students Area includes the departments of Basic Needs, Civility, Conduct and Ethical Development, Cougar Care Network, Housing & Residential Education, New Student and Family Programs, ACE Scholar Services, College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP), Child Care Access Program (CCAMPIS), Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), Project Rebound, and TRIO Student Support Services (SSS). The Dean of Students is a co-chair of the CARE Team/Threat Assessment, Critical Issues Team and the Cross Functional Incident Team. The Dean of Students serves as a campus-wide resource regarding students’ rights and responsibilities. The Dean of Students is an administrative designated CSUSM Corporation Board of Directors member. The AVP and Dean of Students provides advising to the Associated Students, Inc. Student Advocacy Committee.

Position Summary

Associate Vice President and Dean of Students (Administrator III)

This is a full-time, exempt position in the Management Personnel Plan (MPP). MPP positions serve at the pleasure of the President.

Pay, Benefits, and Work Schedule

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $15,417 - $16,750 per month

CSU Classification Salary Range: $6,891 - $22,119 per month

Salary is commensurate with the background and experience of the individual selected.

This position is eligible for a broad range of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurances, retirement (CalPERS), tuition waiver, vacation and sick leave. In addition, 15 paid holidays are offered each year; 14 scheduled on specific days and a Personal Holiday that may be taken any time during the year.

This position is required to work in person on campus.
