Role:

Responsible for the consumer and indirect lending portfolio underwriting, processing and compliance, as well as the consumer loan origination system. Oversee the prompt underwriting and processing of all consumer loan applications obtained through all origination channels - branches, on-line and by phone. Oversee development of strong dealer relationships, underwriting teams (direct and indirect), and efficient documentation and funding processes resulting in achieving organizational consumer production goals. Possess strong conceptual thinking, problem-solving, analytical, and leadership skills.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review and analyze underwriting policies and procedures and ensure underwriting activity is consistent and up-to-date with current regulations and internal controls. Utilizes data to effectively manage individual underwriting adherence to policy and ALCO credit risk tolerance. Works closely with underwriters and utilizes various reports and trends to ensure underwriting is consistent and looking for additional opportunities for sales staff to offer.
  • Oversee the department with management of the day-to-day consumer loan operation, providing leadership, guidance and coaching of the staff. Develop and recommend lending policies and products. Monitor and analyze economic conditions affecting the loan portfolio performance in order to recommend appropriate action.
  • Set the department's strategic plans to align with the credit union's business plan. Establish and ensure the implementation of target goals for all areas of the department. Assist in establishing and monitoring the department's annual budget.
  • Research and evaluate feasibility of new lending products. Develop and implement plans for expansion of lending programs. Keep abreast of changes in the industry and change in trends in lending and in loan original systems.
  • Analyzes and completes regularly scheduled loan reports. Develop procedures and reporting tools for effective communication to flow through department and affected individuals.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the market's rates, terms, products and trends relating to consumer lending. Provide timely feedback that allows time for the credit union to react competitively.

Knowledge and Skills

EXPERIENCE:Needs 8-10 years of related experience including leadership in consumer lending, underwriting, or lending operations.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES:Bachelor's degree preferred.

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:A significant level of trust, credibility and diplomacy is required. In-depth dialogue, conversations and explanations with customers, direct and indirect reports and outside vendors can be of a sensitive and/or highly confidential nature. Communications may involve motivating, influencing, educating and/or advising others on matters of significance. Typically includes subject matter experts as well as first level to middle managers.

OTHER SKILLS:Strong analytical, leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills. Expertise in consumer lending and operational processes.

ADA Requirements

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Is able to bend, sit, and stand in order to perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in an emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including computer terminals and keyboards, telephones, copiers, facsimiles, and calculators. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours or travel off site whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.

WORKING CONDITIONS:Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with minimal noise.

MENTAL AND/OR EMOTIONAL REQUESTS:Must be able to perform job functions independently or with limited supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Must be able to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to complete basic mathematical calculations, spell accurately, and understand computer basics. Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of customer service and discretion when dealing with the public. Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines / requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and/or fast pace. Must be able to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities. Must be capable of exercising highest level of discretion on both internal and external confidential matters.
