Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Applied Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Science, Economics, or related field.
  • 10+ years of related experience, including managing multiple lines of business or enterprise initiatives.
  • Associate of the Casualty Actuary Society (ACAS) or similar credential preferred.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Establishes and upholds department direction and vision.
  • Leads the establishment of vision and direction for the actuarial and pricing analytics department, in collaboration with senior leadership.
  • Represents the company in business settings and regularly with external parties, including regulators and industry groups.
  • Responsible for developing new business processes or comprehensive analytic efforts.
  • Ensures that the work product supports business growth and profitability.
  • Takes responsibility to extensively modify processes in order to improve accuracy and efficiency.
  • Invokes critical thought process to solve complex problems and identify dependencies in processes to enable direction of staff.
  • Ensures soundness of actuarial and pricing analytics analyses and consistency with Standards of Practice.
  • Advises senior and executive leadership on enterprise-wide actuarial and pricing analytics strategy, risk, and emerging issues.
  • Partners with business leaders to provide expertise on business efforts.
  • Partners with senior business leaders in administering multiple lines of business or other areas of responsibility similar in scope and complexity.
  • Organizes and coordinates actuarial efforts with business leaders to develop and implement new products and expand into new markets.
  • Fosters positive, collaborative working relationships with senior executive leaders across the organization.
  • Acts as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for actuarial and pricing analytics matters at the enterprise level.
  • Prepares and communicates actuarial findings to business leaders.
  • Develops and manages a team of Credentialed Actuaries, Pricing Analytics Professionals, and Actuarial Analysts.
  • Provides direction to team. Communicates Mission, Values and other organization operating principles to the team.
  • Establish high standards for the delivery of services and products rendered, resulting in excellent customer experience. Ensures that the entire team is engaged and that leadership practices encourage development, recognition and retention.
  • Oversee team performance and development, including performance management, development planning, and coaching for direct reports.
  • Acts as a resource for team members to answer questions and solve complex problems.
  • Manages budget, technology and other resources, workload and customer requests for services. Ensures adherence to all Company policies and procedures and Compliance responsibilities.
  • Instills awareness of regulatory industry compliance, Actuarial Standards of Practice, and ICW standards on AI systems and data used for modeling.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • This position directly supervises employees, potentially including Managers and/or Directors, within the Actuarial and Pricing Analytics department and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.
  • These responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; conducting performance and salary reviews; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; coaching, mentoring, and developing team members to further their skills and knowledge; creating and monitoring development plans; setting performance expectations/goals; forecasting staffing needs and planning for peak times and absences; enforcing department policies and procedures.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university required in Applied Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Science, Economics or related field. Advanced degrees in related fields preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of related experience, including demonstrated experience managing multiple lines of business or enterprise-wide initiatives; or, equivalent combination of education and experience.
