Job Summary

As the AVL Event Technician, your primary responsibility is to support and enhance live experiences at Crossroads’ non-Sunday service events across various locations. This role collaborates with staff, volunteers, and creative teams to deliver impactful events that align with Crossroads’ mission. The position requires a strong foundation of technical expertise in one production discipline (audio, video, or lighting), basic knowledge in a second discipline, and a commitment to gaining basic knowledge in a third discipline within the first year of employment. With flexible hours and a focus on non-Sunday events, this role requires adaptability, technical proficiency, and excellent communication skills to execute creative visions effectively.

Job Specific Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Serve as a lead technician for non-Sunday service events, including all-church events, camps, night-of-worship, family meetings, and special productions.
  • Provide on-site technical support and troubleshooting for event-specific AVL (audio, video, lighting) needs.
  • Collaborate with Clients, Creative Directors, Producers and fellow Technicians to determine the most effective way to execute event concepts.
  • Assist with load-ins, load-outs, delivery, and transport of production equipment to various Crossroads locations.
  • Research and test new tools, systems, and technologies to enhance event production quality.
  • Document event setups and systems to assist in future troubleshooting and planning.
  • Fill in as an emergency technician for other events when available and needed.
  • Develop and maintain an appetite for learning new technologies, systems, and processes that align with Crossroads’ vision.


Job Specific Qualifications

Education Requirements:

  • High School Diploma and equivalent work experience.
  • College Degree preferred.


Experience/ Skills Requirements:

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to manage multiple tasks.
  • Organized, disciplined with priorities, meticulous attention to detail.
  • Experience in on & off-site troubleshooting and technical support for AVL systems with a good ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Previous experience as a technician in a fast-paced environment preferred
  • Working knowledge of Google Apps, Slack, Planning Center Online, or other software as needed
  • Experience working in a creative environment - i.e. music or video production, stage/lighting, graphic design, theater.
  • Working knowledge of or aptitude to learn live audio systems, preferably Digico, Qsys and Yamaha
  • Working knowledge of or aptitude to learn live video systems, preferably Ross, Evertz, Blackmagic, Renewed Vision, and AJA.
  • Working knowledge of or aptitude to learn lighting systems, preferably GrandaMA, ETC Paradigm, Martin, Chauvet and Absen LED
  • Mastery of the AVL basics: cables, connectors, signal types, signal flow and terminology.
  • Proficiency with Mac OS and Windows.

Physical Requirements:

  • Performs effectively under pressure, and against strict time constraints.
  • Must be able to walk up to 5 miles, standing, climbing, lifting, pulling, and/or pushing, carrying, reaching, stooping and crouching as duties required.
  • Must be able to lift up 50 lbs.
  • Able to work independently without direct supervision.
  • Comfortable in catwalks and tight spaces with proper safety equipment
  • Able to drive non-CDL straight trucks and back up to a delivery dock


Scheduling / Travel Requirements:

  • Typical daily schedule is Monday-Friday - hours will vary due to Event support needs.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekdays, weekends and other high impact events at Crossroads.
  • Work on the weekends at designated “All Hand on Deck” events for Crossroads (Superbowl, Easter, Christmas, etc)
  • Reliable personal transportation; able to travel up to 100 miles to various Crossroads locations
