Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking an avionics/optical test engineer to support development, acceptance, and qualification of flight avionics hardware within the Lunar Permanence unit. You will develop test plans, lead anomaly investigations, and coordinate with design engineers to ensure robust, safe hardware for spaceflight.

The role requires hands-on testing across environmental tests (shock/vibration, thermal cycles, vacuum, EMI/EMC), and collaboration with mechanical, systems, and operations teams to

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in electrical, computer, or aerospace engineering, physics, or related field.
  • 4+ years aerospace test experience with test requirements, plans, procedures, reports, and equipment.
  • 3+ years hardware test experience at the LRU or system level (RS-422/RS-485, SPI, ethernet, MTF, SNR).
  • Proficient with standard electronic lab tests and troubleshooting equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and approve avionics test plans and procedures for avionics/optical systems.
  • Lead test readiness efforts and coordinate resources.
  • Troubleshoot test anomalies and perform root cause analyses.
  • Generate test data, summaries, and verification artifacts.

Passion for our mission and vision is required!Special Mentions:Relocation providedTravel could be expected up to 25% of the timeInterviews will include a technical assessmentResponsibilities include but are not limited to:Develop, maintain, and approve avionics test plans and procedures with an emphasis on providing your expertise on avionics / optical systems test and environmental test methodologies and best practicesSupport Design and Systems Engineers in avionics hardware design and verification plan developmentWork with Hardware and Software Design Engineers to design, build, and verify custom Automated Test EquipmentSupport schedule development and resource coordinationLead test readiness efforts, resolve work stoppages, and delegate supporting tasksLead and/or directly run test proceduresEnforce safety policies during test operationsTroubleshoot test anomalies real-time and identify test article and test equipment non-conformancesLead anomaly investigations, root cause analyses, and development of recovery planConsolidate, analyze, present, and archive test dataGenerate test record summaries and support generation of verification artifactsResponsibly guide avionics /optical hardware through the environmental testing process and ultimately ensure hardware and records meet engineering and quality requirements upon test completionDevelop/improve processes and standard procedures with emphasis on optimizing quality and efficiency of the team’s performanceTrain Test Specialists and other Test EngineersProvide support to strategic initiatives, technology maturation, and capturing best practices at the business/functional levelMinimum Qualifications:Minimum of a B.S. in electrical, computer, or aerospace engineering, physics, or related fieldMinimum 4 years demonstrated aerospace test experience including: developing test requirements, plans, procedures, reports, and associated test equipment/test setups; operating and troubleshooting test setups and test articles; participating in environmental testing including Shock/Vibration, Thermal Cycles, Vacuum, and/or EMI/EMCMinimum 3 years demonstrated hardware test experience of typical avionics / optical devices at the LRU or system level (e.g., RS-422, RS-485, U2C, SPI, ethernet, MTF, SNR, etc.)Proficient in the use of standard electronic lab tests and troubleshooting equipment.Desire to work hands-on, both independently and as part of a team, throughout the development and production phases of the mechanical and electronic assembly product lifecycle.Good written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.Ability to work with multi-functional teams such as mechanical, systems, and operations to partner for the best test implementation solutions.Preferred Qualifications:Experience developing, designing, and/or verifying custom Automated Test EquipmentExperience testing optical systems such as cameras and lidarsExperience working with PythonFamiliarity with Linux and other Unix-style operating systemsFamiliarity with git, JIRA, WindchillExperience developing hardware to IPC J-STD-0001xS, IPC/WHMA-A-620x-S, and/or NASA-STD-8739.n standardsExperience with DO-160, MIL-STD-461, and SMC-S-016 (or equivalent testing standards)Experience with safety-critical systems development (automotive, aerospace, medical, etc.)Base Pay Range for:WA applicants is $130,706.00 - $182,987.70Other site ranges may differCulture StatementDon’t meet all desired requirements?
