POSITION DESCRIPTION AND SPECIFICATION

POSITION TITLE: Avionics Technician    DATE: January 2025

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt    DEPT: General Aviation

LOC: Delaware

POSITION SUMMARY

The Avionics Technician reports to the Avionics & Installation Supervisor and is responsible for installation, repair, modification, and routine maintenance of aircraft avionics systems. The technician operates in compliance with company safety practices and performs other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Perform work as outlined in work orders in a timely manner and sign off upon completion.
  2. Notify supervisor immediately of any conditions that may affect parts, materials, airworthiness, workmanship, or schedule.
  3. Coordinate with the Designated Inspector for inspections and notify prior to closing or final inspection.
  4. Repair, modify, install, and perform routine maintenance on all avionics systems with accuracy and minimal assistance.
  5. Stay updated on current technical maintenance standards and methods.
  6. Interpret maintenance manuals, service bulletins, wiring diagrams, system schematics, drawings, and engineering orders accurately.
  7. Apply deductive reasoning to troubleshoot and repair complex systems.
  8. Utilize avionics test equipment properly and stay informed about new testing technologies.
  9. Maintain and properly utilize avionics hand tools for repairs and installations.
  10. Keep work area clean and organized.
  11. Communicate work progress and issues to leadership and team members.
  12. Document work performed daily using the standard format, ensuring accuracy.
  13. Fabricate wire bundles and assemblies per drawings and standards, including wiring, securing, and terminating wires.
  14. Ensure work order discrepancies are adequately addressed.
  15. Notify supervisor of any tasks that should be documented in the On The Job Training (OJT) record.
  16. Support and train new hires and team members as needed.
Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must meet the following requirements:

  • Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED; five years of experience as an avionics technician and an A&P license.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and manuals. Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform basic math, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and interpret graphs.
  • Reasoning Ability: Apply common sense to carry out instructions and solve problems involving multiple variables.
  • Computer Skills: Ability to interact with spreadsheet software and enter data accurately.
  • Other Skills: Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
Physical Demands

Regularly use hands to handle or feel, reach with arms, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Frequent sitting, walking, talking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and hearing are required. Vision abilities include close, color, peripheral, and depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

Frequently exposed to wet/humid conditions, outdoor weather, moving mechanical parts, vibration, high places, fumes, airborne particles, chemicals, and explosives. Noise levels are within OSHA guidelines.
