Job summary

Varstaff Staffing is seeking an Avionics Technician V in Hagerstown, MD. The role requires SME-level expertise in aircraft ISR integrations and mentoring junior technicians. You will oversee installation, testing, troubleshooting and repair of avionics components per FCC/FAA policies and company guidelines.

You must have your own tools and be able to interpret complex schematics, route wiring, and work with advanced avionics test equipment. Prior lead experience is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Must have own tools in good working order.
  • Ability to understand and interpret complex, technical schematics and diagrams; route wires per drawings.
  • Proficiency in avionics installation tooling, wiring repair, harnessing, soldering and crimping.
  • Basic understanding of spectrometer, oscilloscope and Pitot-static equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform avionics maintenance according to FCC, FAA and company policies and regulations.
  • Oversee installation, testing, troubleshooting and repair of avionics components.
  • Maintain test equipment, tools and manuals and mentor junior technicians.
  • Serve as SME and lead or mentor others as needed.

Job description

Varstaff is currently searching for Avionics Technicians for our client in Hagerstown, MD. This role is a Level 5.

A Level 5 Aviation Technician should serve as a subject matter expert in Aircraft ISR integrations and act as a strong mentor to junior technicians.

As an Avionics Technician V, you will be regarded as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and will use your skills and expertise to perform avionics maintenance according to FCC, FAA and company policies and regulations. You'll be responsible for overseeing and may teach installation, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of avionics components, and maintenance of test equipment, tools, and manuals.

Physical/Mental/Emotional Requirements
  • Frequently walk, sit, stand, climb stairs and steps.
  • Frequently repeat same hand, arm, and finger motion many times to include finger and hand dexterity. Frequently requires vision abilities to include close, distance, depth perception, and telling the difference between colors.
  • Frequently requires hearing abilities to include discerning different tones and volumes.
  • Occasionally lifting or carrying up to 50 lbs.
Working Conditions
  • Frequently exposed to outdoor elements (high/low temperatures, sun, rain/snow, etc.)
  • Frequently exposed to fumes or hazardous chemicals/materials.
  • Frequently exposed to loud noises.
Safety Sensitive Position
  • Responsible for the safety or security of people or property.
  • Inspects, handles, or transports explosives, dangerous or hazardous materials.
  • Inspects structures, equipment or vehicles.
  • Performs aviation related duties.
  • Operate or supervise vehicles, heavy or dangerous equipment or machinery.
Must‑haves
  • Must have own tools in good working order.
  • Ability to understand and interpret complex, technical schematics, diagrams, blueprints, manuals and/or publications; ability to route wires per technical drawings.
  • Proficiency in avionics installation tooling, wiring, wiring repair, wiring installation, soldering and crimping techniques.
  • Basic understanding of spectrometer, Oscilloscope and/or Pitot static equipment.
Preferred
  • Prior experience in a Lead role; the ability to mentor, train, guide and inspect the work of subordinates.
  • Familiarity with FCC and FCC GROL.
  • Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry, the US Department of Defense or US Military.

Experience with TRIAX, QUADRAX, Fiber-Optic assemblies, and El Ochito RF Connectors is not required but would certainly be a nice-to-have.

Education

Must-haves: High school diploma or GED equivalent and typically 15 or more years of relevant experience. A higher level degree may substitute for experience. Related experience may be considered in lieu of required education.
