AVIONICS SYSTEMS ENGINEER (DRAGON)

As an Avionics Engineer supporting Dragon, you will work with a cross-functional team of engineers to consolidate execution between vehicle analysis, design, and production, extending through vehicle system verification and space operations. You will be involved in all disciplines, leading change from product development through to vehicle system validation.

Your creativity and commitment to quality will be essential in creating, analyzing, and maintaining systems designs, defining and improving processes, and developing vehicle validation techniques to build a state-of-the-art, fully reusable space launch vehicle system capable of safely carrying crew and payloads. You will also troubleshoot in real-time during vehicle operations, ensuring safety and reliability.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manage system-level performance and hardware ownership for computing, power, instrumentation, and RF communications.
  • Develop, execute, and analyze avionics system testing on flight hardware to validate readiness for launch and investigate root causes of issues.
  • Support build and capsule maintenance by troubleshooting problems and streamlining processes to increase launch cadence and reliability.
  • Provide real-time support during missions, review data, monitor system performance, and collaborate to simplify system operations.
  • Collaborate with teams to define project scope and requirements from concept to production.
  • Define testing and qualification requirements, perform testing, and document results.
  • Travel to launch and customer sites for testing and operations as needed.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or physics.
  • 1+ years experience with software such as Python, C++, and/or Matlab.
  • 1+ years experience with electrical component design, system integration, or testing (internships and projects included).
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Experience with electronic component sizing, installation, troubleshooting, and wire harness design.
  • Proficiency with CAD software like NX, PCB design tools like Altium, RF system design/testing, and electrical test equipment.
  • Ability to automate testing and analyze large data sets.
  • Problem-solving skills, risk assessment, and decision-making with limited data.
  • Self-motivation, organizational skills, and strong communication.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, autonomous environment.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Willingness to work extended hours and weekends if necessary.
  • Ability to pass an Air Force background check for Cape Canaveral.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Salary range varies by level, with additional incentives including stock options, bonuses, comprehensive health coverage, retirement plans, paid leave, and holidays. Exact compensation depends on experience and qualifications.
