Job summary

Impulse Space in Redondo Beach seeks an Avionics Manufacturing Supervisor to hire, mentor and lead technicians building avionics hardware for spacecraft. You will oversee PCB assemblies, RF passives, mechanical assembly and acceptance testing to ensure quality and reliability.

You will collaborate with design, manufacturing, and quality teams to optimize processes, set production targets, and maintain high technical standards in a cleanroom environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (minimum)
• 5+ years of professional manufacturing experience in electrical and optical hardware
• Proven leadership and ability to grow a manufacturing team
• Experience with PCB assemblies (soldering, conformal coating) and electromechanical assemblies
• Experience with acceptance testing (ATP) including electrical and environmental testing

Responsibilities

• Hire, develop and mentor avionics manufacturing technicians
• Provide production coordination by driving schedule and day-to-day floor support for PCBAs and electromechanical assembly
• Perform acceptance testing of avionics hardware (electrical and environmental)

Description

As the Avionics Manufacturing Supervisor at Impulse, you will hire, manage, and mentor avionics manufacturing technicians to support avionics hardware builds for Impulse’s vehicles. You will support manufacturing hardware including PCB assemblies (staking, conformal coating, underfill, soldering), RF passives components (antennas and filters), mechanical assembly, and acceptance testing (electrical and environmental ATP). You will work directly with leaders and individual contributors in other disciplines. You will have the opportunity to contribute to all aspects of avionics production.

Responsibilities

• Hire, develop and mentor avionics manufacturing technicians
• Provide production coordination by driving manufacturing schedule and providing day-to-day support for the production floor for PCBAs and electromechanical assembly
• Acceptance testing of avionics, hardware, including environmental and electrical testing
• Collaborate with design engineers, manufacturing engineers and quality teams to ensure manufacturability, DFM/DFA compliance, and long-term reliability
• Set daily and weekly production targets, backed by performance metrics such as rate and yield
• Develop, document, and optimize manufacturing processes for avionics
• Establish and maintain high technical standards through specifications and training
• Manage space, equipment and consumables in the avionics cleanroom

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma, or equivalency certificate
• Demonstrated commitment to and track record of leadership and growing people.
• 5+ years professional experience manufacturing electrical and optical hardware
• Demonstrated experience building, managing and developing a manufacturing team
• Ability to communicate technical challenges, explain rationale and/or resolve concerns
• Experience with the production of PCB assemblies (soldering, conformal coating, etc.)
• Experience with electromechanical assemblies
• Experience with acceptance testing (ATP), including electrical and environmental testing (thermal cycling, thermal vacuum, vibration)

Preferred Skills And Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related field is preferred
• Experience managing a non-exempt workforce
• 5+ years of demonstrated experience in avionics manufacturing for space environments
• Desire to improve team processes and train team members

Additional Information

Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity. In addition to base salary, for full-time hires, you may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of stock options, and access to medical, vision & dental coverage as well as access to a 401(k) retirement plan.
