Job summary

West Star Aviation Inc. is seeking an Avionics Maintenance Technician for the weekend shift in Chattanooga, TN. The role involves avionics support including panel work, troubleshooting, and system verification, with a Friday–Sunday schedule and 6:00–6:30pm hours.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general avionics support items on aircraft, including removal and installation of panels and components.
  • Troubleshoot and evaluate systems on the aircraft.
  • Inspect and evaluate aircraft and components as needed.
  • Verify aircraft performance and systems after maintenance.
  • Maintain shop facilities, equipment and tooling to support operations.
  • Coordinate with customers on project management and pricing as needed.
  • Work independently on projects.

Our weekend Shift schedule is Friday-Sunday, 6am-6:30pm. The shift incentive includes an 11.11% shift differential and 3 day workweek.

What you can expect as an Avionics Maintenance Technician at West Star:
  • Perform general avionics support items on aircraft. This shall include, but not be limited to items such as removal and installation of panels and components and repair work.
  • Troubleshooting and evaluation of systems on the aircraft when designated.
  • Inspection and evaluation of the aircraft and components when designated.
  • Aircraft movement and performance verification of systems.
  • Maintenance and repair of shop facility, equipment and tooling to support operations.
  • Work with customer in project management, pricing and customer support roles.
  • Work independently on projects.
  • Any other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor or management.
  • Effectively and clearly communicate (i.e., speak, write, read) in English
  • Basic computer skills to be able to navigate electronic training, manuals, and maintenance data bases
Your Education

What you’ll need to bring with you:

  • A High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Electronics or Avionics factory training is preferred.

Your Experience
Tech I
  • 0-2 years of experience in avionics, military avionics or electrical field
  • These technicians have very limited to no knowledge of the position
  • This level requires close supervision and constant check ins on work performance
Tech II
  • 2-4 years of experience in avionics or military avionics field.
  • Considerable knowledge of the job with a broad understanding of detailed aspects
  • Will need general supervision and instructions
Tech III
  • 4-6 years of experience in avionics or military avionics field.
  • Full knowledge of the job and complete understanding of detailed aspects
  • Limited supervision is required.
  • No instruction needed and can act as a trainer or mentor to other technicians
Master Technician
  • 6+ years’ experience with corporate/business avionics systems
  • Exclusive knowledge in all areas of the job
  • This technician is a subject matter expert with a wide and comprehensive knowledge of the job.
Your Initiative

We’re looking for team players who are self-motivated and able to perform in a fast paced environment where working under specific deadlines and time constraints will be common. Dealing with customers and the capacity to perform work with minimal supervision will also be required.

Your Sense Of Responsibility

Attend work every day as scheduled to include overtime and weekend assignments. Notify supervisor in advance of shift starting if unable to work. Must have reliable transportation to get to work each and every day. Perform all work in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration guidelines. Follow all company and safety rules during performance of duties. Maintain customer oriented work habits.

  • Lifts 50 lbs.
  • Routine walking, bending and squatting or sitting.

Working Conditions
  • Work is performed in a hangar environment subject to extreme temperature variations from very cold to very hot.
  • Work outside during aircraft runs will occur.
  • Varied positions in and around the aircraft.
Equipment Used
  • Personal hand tools supplied by the mechanic.
  • Pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical equipment.
  • Jacks, stands, lifts and other support devices.
  • Tugs, power carts and other engine powered equipment.
  • Crimpers, soldering iron and heat guns.
  • Personal computer and work order prints
