Job summary

Apex Technology, Inc. in Playa Vista, CA is seeking an Avionics Harness Design Engineer to design, analyze, and verify electrical harnesses for spacecraft, satellites, rovers, and other aerospace applications.

You will work with systems, mechanical, and fabrication teams to deliver harnesses that meet NASA/ESA standards, IPC/WHMA, and harsh space environments, including EMI/EMC compliance and thermal/vacuum testing. This role requires a U.S.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 3+ years designing electrical harnesses for aerospace or space systems.
  • Deep understanding of grounding, shielding, power distribution and signal integrity.
  • Experience with NASA/ESA standards and IPC/WHMA-A-620 guidance.
  • Ability to read schematics and mechanical drawings with attention to detail.
  • Proven collaboration across systems, mechanical, and manufacturing teams.

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed designs for electrical harnesses, including wiring diagrams, schematics, and 3D routing models.
  • Select suitable connectors, backshells, wires, and shielding materials for space environments.
  • Collaborate with systems and mechanical engineering teams to meet requirements.
  • Perform electrical analyses: voltage drop, derating, SI, and thermal effects.
  • Ensure EMI/EMC compliance and NASA/ESA spaceflight standards.
  • Conduct environmental assessments for extreme space conditions.
  • Develop test plans for qualification, acceptance, environmental testing.
  • Coordinate with testing teams for thermal vacuum, vibration, and radiation tests.
  • Address issues from testing and implement design improvements.
  • Generate BOMs, ICDs, and manufacturing drawings.
  • Maintain records of iterations, compliance checks, and test results.
  • Work with teams to align designs with system goals and integration.
  • Support harness installation, integration, troubleshooting during assembly and testing.
