Job description

Department Summary

The Aviation and Technology Department at San José State University offers a Bachelor of Science in Aviation (BS Aviation), a Master of Science in Quality Assurance (MSQA), and four major tracks—Professional Flight, Aviation Management, Flight Operations, and Maintenance Management. The department enrolls about 270 students and houses a Flight Simulation Lab with more than ten simulators, plus access to the County’s Reid‑Hillview Airport and a 10,000‑SF hangar. Students may earn credits through internships and are encouraged to pursue individual research projects with faculty.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate awareness of and address the needs of a diverse student population through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies, and advisement.
  • Organize all classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Deliver scheduled class sessions throughout the semester or term, in the assigned mode—whether asynchronous, synchronous, bi‑chronous, in‑person, or hybrid.
  • Collaborate with the Department Chair and Course Coordinators to develop course materials, teach effectively, maintain appropriate office hours per University Policy, and participate in the peer‑review process.
  • Seek guidance from the Department Chair regarding University policies and departmental practices related to grading, testing, textbooks, office hours, curriculum goals, disability accommodations, academic integrity, and related matters.
Qualifications
  • Demonstrated awareness and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population, acquired through cross‑cultural study, training, teaching, or comparable experience.
  • PhD or MS in the relevant field; a BS with several years of experience may be acceptable under exceptional circumstances. Industry experience is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of the subject matter of the assigned discipline.
  • Evidence of satisfactory achievement in prior academic work.
Compensation

Salary placement is based on qualifications and experience. Anticipated monthly salary rates for full‑time AY faculty are:

  • L‑A / Range 2 – $5,507 – $5,959
  • L‑B / Range 3 – $6,221 – $7,481
  • L‑C / Range 4 – $6,825 – $9,431
  • L‑D / Range 5 – $8,593 – $10,347

Rates are monthly; the full‑time annual salary equals the monthly rate times 12. Refer to the Faculty Salary Schedule for additional details.

Employment Conditions

Faculty employees must complete required CSU employee training (e.g., discrimination and harassment prevention, Title IX, health and safety). Compliance with COVID‑19 safety protocols, budget and enrollment conditions, and collective‑bargaining agreement provisions—assigning courses first to tenure‑line faculty—apply.
