Job summary

Boehringer Ingelheim in Gainesville, FL, seeks a dedicated Animal Care Technician to assist with poultry testing at the Candler Poultry Center. You will support veterinarians, manage daily bird care, and help ensure timely data entry into the LIMS system.

This role requires attention to safety, strong record keeping, and the ability to work rotating weekends. High school diploma required; an associate degree and poultry experience preferred. You must not own birds and be able to lift 70 lbs.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate’s Degree in animal science preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience working with animals preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience working with animals preferred.
  • Experience working with poultry preferred.
  • Must be conscientious, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work alone.
  • Must realize the importance of non-contamination process and adhere to procedures.
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships and communicate well.
  • Must be able to lift 70 lbs and have a clean driving record.
  • Must be able to stand long periods and use ladder as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Caring for birds (feed, water, air).
  • Vaccinate, bleed, and assist in necropsies with veterinarians; enter test information in LIMS or other data systems.
  • Cleaning isolation units or test cages.
  • Reporting of daily observations of birds.
  • Reporting of any equipment failure; maintain a clean and orderly work area.
  • Be support and secondary planner/scheduler for Avian QC safety and potency testing to meet serial release dates; ensure USDA and regulatory compliance.
  • Some weekend work required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • May not own or have contact with other birds or poultry.
