Job summary

Avalon Healthcare Solutions is seeking a DevOps Engineer III to drive SRE and platform engineering across our cloud-native stack. You will improve observability, automate deployments, and mentor scrum teams in a fast-paced, remote-friendly environment.

The role requires 4–8 years in cloud engineering or DevOps, strong AWS/Linux skills, and hands-on experience with Terraform, CloudFormation, Docker, and Kubernetes to enable scalable, secure delivery of health-tech platforms.

Qualifications

• 4–8 years in Cloud/DevOps, systems engineering, or SRE roles.
• Strong hands-on with Linux-based production environments and AWS services.
• Experience with CI/CD tooling and deployment automation.

Responsibilities

• Identify opportunities to improve operational excellence, including scaling, observability, logging, alerting, and orchestration at scale.
• Drive Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) and Platform Engineering (PE) principles to empower scrum teams and IT Operations.
• Lead post-incident blameless postmortems to minimize risk and drive continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with IT Operations, Development Scrum Teams, Database, EDI, and Clinical Operations for cross-functional integration.
• Advocate and mature a DevOps practice with strong leadership and mentoring.

DevOps Engineer III – Responsibilities

• Identify opportunities for improvements to continuously drive greater operational excellence, including areas such as improving elastic horizontal scaling, observability, logging, alerting, containerization, and application orchestration at scale.
• Responsible for driving Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) and Platform Engineering (PE) principles to enable the success of scrum teams and IT Operations teams.
• Responsible for driving a post-incident blameless postmortem process to help review opportunities to minimize risk and drive continuous self-improvements to our processes and products.
• Collaborate with IT Operations, Application Development Scrum Teams, Database, EDI, and Clinical Operations teams to provide ongoing support and ensure seamless cross-functional integration.
• Expected to drive technical excellence and demonstrate the leadership required to establish and advance a mature DevOps practice for Avalon.

DevOps Engineer III – Minimum Qualifications

• 4-8 years of experience in Cloud Engineering, Systems Administration, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, or DevOps
• Bachelor of Science degree in a technical field such as engineering or computer science, or equivalent relevant experience
• Strong hands-on experience in Linux-based production environments and core AWS services.
• Hands-on IaC experience with AWS CloudFormation and working knowledge of Terraform, including support for CloudFormation-to-Terraform migration.
• Solid experience with CI/CD principles and tooling, including deployment automation and support for multiple scrum teams (Harness preferred).
• Experience with container and orchestration technologies, including Docker, AWS ECS, AWS Fargate, and Kubernetes/AWS EKS.
• Strong automation and scripting skills in Bash and Python, with exposure to an additional language such as Go for platform tooling.
• Experience implementing observability practices, including metrics, logging, alerting, and incident response workflows.
• Security-first mindset with experience integrating security scanning tools (e.g., Snyk), secrets management, and least-privilege access controls.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex infrastructure and delivery pipeline issues.
• Strong collaboration, communication, and mentoring skills, with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience using AI-assisted engineering tools and implementing AI-driven operational workflows such as automated troubleshooting, alert enrichment, smart notification routing, and remediation guidance with appropriate security and compliance controls.

DevOps Engineer III – Preferred Qualifications

• AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner
• AWS Certified DevOps Engineer (Professional)
• Experience with AIOps capabilities such as anomaly detection, event correlation, and alert noise reduction.
• Experience tracking operational KPIs (e.g., MTTD, MTTR, alert fatigue reduction, and deployment lead time) to drive continuous improvement.
